if you can fly do it. the journey on the bus is never ending!
if you look around and book early flights can be had for cheap too.
take your earplugs if you do go on the coach, they might save you from killing someone.
M.
oh and bigg ups to all the yanks, 24 hour flights is insane in the membrane.

The megabus allows for you consistently to be able to do a return trip for £51 (very occasionally £2.50). If you are flexible travelling and look a fair bit in advance you can get return flights for about £50 anyway (or at least close to). All I mean is, it is very useful, but I would nearly always choose to fly instead if that was an option (exception being my initial trip, lots of luggage !)

How much can the bus company actually be making on prices like that? Nothing it would seem and they actually would be losing $$$$$$ right?

Any problems with London customs bringing a few party favorites overland from the dam via the bus? Lax? Tight? Searches? What's the situation? Thx

The bus goes through Calais. French customs will probably nick you. I was busted by a sniffer poodle one Christmas, and that wasn't even the Amsterdam bus - I caught a Lithuania-London bus at Brussels.
Use the post. That's what it's for.

That's good to know! Thanks for the info. Answers the question "can a bus cannabis?" I think not.

used to do the coach regulary when i was at uni and couldnt really afford the flights.
must of done it 8 or so times. 7 times no problem, straight through customs at calais at dover.
The last time i did it. French police stopped the coach at passport control. Dogs searched the bags compartment underneath, and found a shit load of cigarettes, the police pulled around 10 African guys (all talking at dam coach station but amazingly sat in completly random places nowhere near each other on the coach). Thankfully the dogs didnt get on the coach. All this shit made us miss the ferry.
Least gave me time to have a few joints in the deserted 'carpark' bit waiting for the next ferry.
Get to Dover thinking they would let us through, but no. Had to get off again, go through passport control again. Had my bag searched (along with everyone else) by customs and had to go through a brief interview about where i had come from, why i went there and where i was going. Coach was taken into those big hangers next to passport control. And had to wait around for 50 minutes for them to piss about and eventually got into London at 10.30am, not the 6am it should of been. BUT they didnt find my stash which was secreted within the seat on the coach. From that day forward i vowed never to get the coach again.
I would rather now just get on the plane, if im busted im busted atleast i havent had to endure 10 hours on a coach before hand.
This was with Eurolines btw, i am sure Megabus get it worse because its much cheaper, thus more people likely to use the service for obvious reasons.
