Big Busts Up North

Post by Tall Guy »

This really spoiled my day - it's been drought central for ages anyway, now this  . 5 days without so far, and nothing on the horizon...I've never known it to be this bad in 15 years of toking...If anyone has any ideas, feel free to PM me

Police seize 350 cannabis plants

More than 60 people were arrested and 350 cannabis plants seized during a two-week crackdown against the drug by police in West Yorkshire.

The biggest finds came after officers executed warrants at homes in Wibsey, Bradford, and Horsforth, Leeds.

Sixty-six tip-offs were received from people reporting drug activity.

West Yorkshire was one of 17 forces taking part in a nationwide crackdown on the class C drug, but pledged its work would continue now that has ended.

Force drugs co-ordinator Bryan Dent said: "We hope the past two weeks has raised public awareness regarding the legal issues surrounding cannabis possession, cultivation and supply, as well as potential health implications.

"But the important message now I want to get across is that the threat of a custodial sentence if you are involved in cannabis does not go away."

Mr Dent said it was important anyone with information about drug activity in their area should come forward.

He said: "We need to continue to bring those involved in illegal drugs to justice. Together we can bring down the drug market."

There has been a drought in the midlands too...

I don't fully understand why the government would downgrade it, and then start attacking growers/dealers/users. Surely there are more pressing concerns to worry about than a few stoners.

While I'm not from the UK, my understanding is that whoever's in charge downgraded the drug class, but the police forces across the country wanted these "dangerous criminals" to know that it was still illegal and that they'd take it just as seriously.

Yep, I think cannabis should be legalised.

The only drawback is all the talk that cannabis is a "gateway" drug and people who use it often move on to the "hard" drugs.

Has anyone here actually found that to be true?

I think it could cause complications to legalise it, I think if it was left as a grade C, but they turned a blind eye (unless people realy took the piss) it could all flow nicely. There would still be a little hassle in obtaining it, but we'd avoid these droughts!
The only thing that annoys me is how they can justify alcohol being legal over weed. And shrooms used to be legal.. i think out of all 3 weed is the least mind altering. Not sure what they base legal/illegal factors on though.

And in response to Doog, I've never found the "gateway" to draw me in, I think it's just something parents tell kids to make them stay away from the evil marijuana!

The gateway theory has been disproven so many times it isn't even funny. Just because all people who drive motorcycles once drove bicycles, it doesn't mean that bicycles are a 'gateway' to motorcycles. And that in a nutshell is what they are trying to say with pot. Problem is, anyone who took first year logic courses can tell you right out that Affirming the Consequent is one of the major logical fallacies.

Well, I have to disagree and say that in my experience (read: personal history), pot is a gateway drug, but I follow that by saying it's only because it's illegal. Kids will be at a party, someone will be passing around a joint, someone will take their first toke, and become a smoker. Hooray, one more for the marijuana masses, right?

Well, The thinking process goes, "If I do one illegal drug, why not try a few others? Pot really isnt all that bad!" So I blame the governments of the world.

Great post there 711, really hit the nail right on the head. I fully agree that most kids will have the fact that it's illegal as part of the reason why they do it.

I mean, when my parents found out I started smoking cigarettes, they were not really bothered even though cigarettes are bad for your health.

When they found out I had started smoking hash, they really hit the roof.

Kids do it because it's bad, it's rebellious and it raises the middle finger at authority such as parents.

Yes, parents are always the first authoritive figure that comes to mind.

Heheh, don't mean to poke fun, but I wasn't expecting you to say parents. =P
