TIME TO GIVE UP THE WEED!!!

Post by Greenisthecolour »

Hey Guys, I hope you're all well. It's been a while since I have been here as I have had soooo much going on,but my weed intake has not suffered at all!! Some background for you all....I have been smoking weed for over 15 years and to be honest, I have loved every minute! However, times and scenarios change and I dont have any room in my life for a daily smoke (atleast a couple of J's a day, mostly evenings) and the weekends were just a big blow out! Basically, I go through about a half-ounce a week. I have been to the Dam many times, smoked most of the best strains and have decided that now is the time to stop. I will have an annual trip to the Dam with my wife as a "treat", but that's it. I have put measures in place for my final four days before I stop, and I then plan to go cold turkey, with some new activities to replace my "weed-time".... It's the first time I have ever wanted to stop so what I would like from you all is some advice, techniques etc if possible?

I will let you know how it goes

Probably not the best place for advice on quitting..lol

I do take breaks every once in awhile just to let the THC in my system purge out so my tolerance goes down, other than this I have no advice as Im a dedicated lifetime toker.

LOL BDH, I hear you, but I wanted to start this thread as I am interested to get some tips from anyone here who has either taken a long break to let the THC in the system die down or given up altogether as I don't think it's gonna be easy mate! My yearly trips to the Dam will, imo, a much better experience than before as what I smoke when I am home is pretty much on par with the stuff over there, in some cases better, although I appreciate some strains out there are pure class...So, I give up in 4 days, for the first time (proper) and will be booking my trip to the Dam on that very day as my incentive

I smoked basically every day from the age of 15 until 26. A lot. Couldn't contemplate not having green around. Then I went on a round the world trip and that got me out of it. I hadn't planned it, but just the fact that it wasn't available all the time forced me to go without and I remembered that it is in fact possible to be happy without a J! And to sleep without it too! Since then I only smoke a couple of times a year, and there were a few years where I didn't at all (testing at work).

Honestly, for me, life is much better now. I get way more shit done as opposed to talking about it and am a lot more sociable, which leads to more interesting shit happening, which means I am less likely to smoke which means...yada yada. The bonus now is that when I do indulge it's a real treat. The fact that my life is much more together now means I enjoy the smoking even more. I am heading to the dam in may, and dude I am soooo excited, way more than any of the other times I went   . And I'm gonna have to spend a lot less too.

My advice would be go for it, remember why you are doing it and keep busy - excercise and reading are great to tire you and make you relaxed if you are craving. Also meditation if you like that kind of thing. Oh, and try not to swap the smoking for four cans of stella a night

Go with the "Bill Clinton" and don't inhale.....   Just tough it out and don't be too hard on yourself if you have a really shit couple of days and go "fuck it, i'm having a toke tonight!!!" then start all over again......
Irony??...... i'm waiting for a friend to arrive with some weed this evening after several weeks of going without(the weed was wet, poorly grown, harvested to early, over priced, under weight ......probably exactly the same as what i'm salivating in anticipation for right now, with the added bastard of, should i just vape it to make it go further, or give in to the tobacco and have a joint....... Oh how I LOVE a joint!!)
I don't think i've been much help here "Greenisthecolour"       So i'm going for a kebabe and a pouch of tabacco to think about this!!! Good luck,,,,,,

I guess I've just been lucky as herb has just enhanced all those things instead of being a drag on my life It has helped lift me up especially during those 65-70 hour work weeks in the summer.
In any case good luck to you may you find your happiness.

I go months without smoking weed due to the fact its €50 for 2.5g on weak weed here. Used to smoke everyday when I was in the UK but first few weeks are the hardest as you will start to see things in a new way be pretty bored and angry moments. So be relax don't think about it and try new stuff to do. good luck

Wow, many thanks for the responses guys!
Bingo, totally understand where you're coming from mate, I too enjoyed a few months without weed on my travels a few years back and as a result had a very good time!
Ukladinireland...Trying new things, imo, is going to be key!
However, scoring good weed and skunk is not a problem where i am from, so that is going to be the real test, deleting the "relevant" numbers from my phone!
Artymac...I LOVE a joint too! LOL
BDH, the herb enhanced many things for me too...music, films, playing video games etc....but then I realised that everything the herb enhances involves sitting or lying down. Couple that with the munchies and it's hello Fatville LOL!
FT Carter, many thanks mate!
I have got about 3 grams of some top-notch Vanilla Kush which will serve me until this Thursday evening, and then on Friday, my quest for energy, fitness and clarity ( amongst other things) begins in ernest on Friday!
I have the day planned out, with a trip to the gym and a relaxing bath and good book to wind down with.
Really appreciate the feedback guys, and I know it may seem strange for me to post this thread on this site, but it made perfect sense to me, as I have been (literally) in love with the weed from day one but it really is time for me to put it to the side and indulge once (or maybe twice!) a year with a trip to the Dam with my missus (who in fact doesnt smoke at all, which I believe will make this easier for me) and you tips, hints and advice are all very welcome and appreciated! I will keep you all up to date on how things go as of Friday....just let me know if it gets too boring for ya! LOL

OK, so my trip to the Motherland (Dam) has been booked for the beginning of July!
Twice-yearly breaks to the motherland where I can really enjoy the Sativas, Indicas and Hashish of choice and get truly baked! This is the way forward for me!

After smoking the herb for over 15 years, now is the time to make it a pleasure rather than a "habit" which is what it was fast becoming....

The only real comedown you will have is having to relate to other people who are straight, on their level, you will end up watching reality TV programmes and wondering whether the weather forecast is right or wrong, you will probably end up masturbating for long periods as your hands wont know what to do with themselves, and you will find yourself being drawn towards old sci/fi movies and wondering what the feck Lord of the Rings was all about, you will find yourself being drawn towards suits and really lovely cardigans and most of all you will miss those late night munchies when a mackerel with spicey tomato sauce with celery and cheese with no extra additives seemed to be a must, welcome to the world of chocolate and horlicks with a digestive biscuit dipped into a decaf cup of tea,you will then believe you are suffering from a multitude of diseases and will happily buy into the governments promotion of vaccines until you are a withered corpse, then when you have been buried we will dig you up and smoke your dry rotting remains thru a bong and laugh until the sunrises on another solstice.

Otherwise no problems mate just drink plenty of water and don't eat the yellow snow as that is just for the shamans reindeer.
if you cant eat it drink it smoke it or snort it then feck it it mad sweeney

I've been a daily smoker for 20 years. Every once in a while I think I might need to quit, so I quickly take at least two bong hits and that takes care of the problem.

Seriously though, I agree with a lot of what is said. I plan to do things and stuff with my free time, and what happens too often is instead I smoke the day away. It is true that smoking takes away the motivation to go out and do things and to participate in life. I know I'd get way more stuff done around the house if I wasn't always saying to myself, "right after the next bong hit" which ends up being an hourlong session then xbox.

One thing that has been an issue for me is travelling. I keep saying I want to see the world, but where do I go when I leave the USA? Amsterdam and Jamaica. We've been to Mexico, and while I was able to score, because it wasn't easy I don't look forward to going back even though we had an awesome time. I keep telling my wife I don't want to go on cruises anymore because after 14 of them I'm bored, but the truth is since I can't risk bringing anything on board anymore I don't want to go.
So we go to Amsterdam and Jamaica, and places that are driving distance, and to FL where I know someone. We did a 13 day cruise once that started in Amsterdam with stops in 10 other cities in the UK, Paris, Portugal and Spain, and the whole time I had fun but was thinking "this would be more fun with weed". I hate spending all that money on vacations and at times would rather be in my basement "coffeeshop" smoking.

Don't fool yourself guys, there are side effects. Just the fact that we choose to puff away and sit here posting on this website when we could be doing, well... anything else... says something, doesn't it?
Why drink and drive when you can smoke and fly?

Very honest and insightful there Zbeebs, appreciate your input ...and I can relate to everything you have said there, except for the fact that over the last two years, I have been Amsterdam twice and loved it but I also loved going to France, Italy, Spain and Vienna....and the key reason was because I KNEW I couldnt get any smoke out there and, sybconsciously at first, actually looked forward to having a break from the weed. The thing is, Im not a big drinker any more (and infact I gave up over a year ago) and knowing I couldnt get any weed meant that I prepared accordingly....so, a couple of good books for the beach, played lots of sports and activities, enjoyed my food, explored the surroundings and attractions etc and every so often, my mind kept reminding me that these things would only have been done half-heartedly, at best LOL!
