Have booked a stay there July 23-7. Not sure if I'll be able to go but it was a good deal for a room that I can probably smoke in.
Anyone stayed there? Any experiences? Tried a search for it on ACD but no joy. It is very close to Niewmarket Square so good positioning for places like Green Place and Hill St at the market as well as Bluebird and Greenhouse Centrum.
Obviously not expecting much but for 40eu in the middle of Summer for a private room not a bad deal.

Of course have read the reviews but would like something a bit more specialized and trustworthy.

Re: Hotel 83
bump. any experiences of this hotel? Good for smoking?
Getting to the time I start looking at Pricline bidding for alternatives. There are loads of reviews of tripadvisor but they differ so much and don't really come from a smoking perspective.

Re: Hotel 83
OK so I stayed at Hotel 83 for 4 nights.
It was 40eu a night at a very busy and expensive time to be in Amsterdam.
The room I got was massive. Bigger than many 4 stars I have stayed in. There were 2 single beds. I had my own bathroom. It was on the top floor and faced sideways so quieter although being in the RLD is never quiet!
The window was huge and I could sit on the windowsill and smoke.
They have free wifi and it is pretty fast.
They have free breakfast.
The staff are friendly and open.
It is very close to greenplace/Niewmarket. About 5 mins walk to Voyagers/Bluebird.
Almost downstairs there is a bar called Cafe Remember which is very happy to allow you to smoke in their back smoking area (pretty nice one too) or outside the front at a table they put out.
Downsides
The stairs are classic Dutch steep and narrow and lots of them!
No A/C so had to sleep with window open which let mozzies in to bite me. Even with the window open it was too hot.
The location in the RLD while central is a bit seedy and run down and there are hookers, drug dealers and other assorted undesireables milling around. They would have used to be a positive for me but nowadays I'm sick of the RLD and many of it's inhabitants.
All in all a great place if you can get it cheap.
psI booked it way in advance through the link on the ACD page - Booking.com
They have free cancellation with 4 days of arrival.

I've stayed in hotel 83 a couple of times. Decent rooms for the prices paid and had an awesome bed the first time I stayed. And a wetroom style bathroom.
Smoked lots both times, staff pretty friendly

Thanks for your report treetop, at €40p/n and with a central location, this sounds like a cool place to stay. Would you stay there again?

Not in the height of Summer. No. Any other time for that price I would for sure. They have heating just no A/C! A lot of Europe is like that. Our A/C back in th UK is 'open the window.'Mongoose wrote:Thanks for your report treetop, at €40p/n and with a central location, this sounds like a cool place to stay. Would you stay there again?
It just happened to very hot after a long cold wet spell.
Also I forgot their brekkie is 9-11 which is really cool can go out for a smoke someplace early then come back with the munchies and eat for free!
The rooms do not have TV's so if you are without a mobile device maybe bring a book or magazine or just do what I did and spend very little time there.
A couple of times I woke up in the night cos of the heat or a mozzie or a shout from the RLD and it was nice to have a smoke and a look at the internet or a movie or play some poker all the while smoking a joint out of the window into the warm Summer night. However on a colder night I could have just closed the window and not been disturbed!
One time had to take a cold shower cos of the heat which was quite refreshing but give me A/C and the place would be a dream lol! They had several huge fans going in the breakfast/reception area so it was ok down there for brekkie.
Overall if you want/need cheap and central you can't really go wrong with this place. Whatever you do though don't go in with high expectations. Just be grateful you got a place so cheap where they also give you free food!
