The Polderbaan

Post by devilswin99 »

Not really a travel issue, but does anyone else here dread landing on the Polderbaan runway at Schiphol? It seriously takes about 15-20 minutes taxi to the terminal. Not sure why they decided to build the runway out so far, but the commute to the terminal eats up valuable smoking time. Hoping that my flight bypasses that runway!!!!!

Hated landing there, used to joke that it took longer to taxi than it did for the flight ! :-)

Gotta agree, planes on the ground have to be the worst form of travel ever, a 20 min trundle over Schiphol's far reaches isn't the best way to start a trip

i always seem to land here. i could be wrong but its farther out to combat noise for houses near the airport during early morning/late eening arrivals/departures.
educating myself and waiting for the next trip.

KLM have priority over the main runways at Schiphol and the Polderbaan part of the airport has lower landing fees, hence why Easyjet and other "budget" carriers land there

Budget flights over the Atlantic are coming soon, possibly even standing room only if Ryanair get their way.

If it happens the Polderbaan will be the least of your worries as the runway the use for Amsterdam is an hour away in Eindhoven

yea they are on their way though. wouldnt say soon. malaysian airline air asia already has budget long haul carriers(air asiax) canada has a semi budget airline. we're behind in that dept. i'd say in the next year or 2.

also hearing the airline i fly on is going all economy...hope that doesnt go down.
