Cinema in Amsterdam?
Hi!
Anyone know of a good cinema that plays the latest blockbusters? Really want to see Avengers or Cabin in the woods whilst im out there next week.
However after googling all I can find is small indie venues that play obscure movies in english with dutch subtitles?
Thanks guys and girls!

Beautiful cinema - when stoned it's really difficult to find your way out...

I love going to the movies high and always see at least one movie while in Amsterdam.
My two favorites are the old russian theatre named Tuschinski, which is a real treat and one of the oldest here is a link http://www.tuschinski.nl and the Pathe on Leidseplein.

There isn't a cinema you could smoke in is there, even normal tobacco? That would be just awesome - been years since I've been able to do that.

No you can't smoke cigs (thank god) in the theatre, one of the best things to happen is the banishment of cigs in restaraunts and cafes and pretty much every public building here.
Tuschinski plays new movies and all movies in Netherlands are played in their original language usually English and they do have subtitles however.

The Imax is playing Avengers 3D in Imax format starting May 3rd I think..
http://www.pathe.nl/films/actueel/imax
There is an English button top of the screen if you need it.
Get real high and see a 3d Imax movie.
Only thing better is the Omnimax.

Enjoy

Yup did this last trip, I saw Ghostrider 2 in 3D had some Paradox cakes and smoke some Kosher Kush laced with Kadinsky trans-Himalaya, I was pretty damned high and it was cool..at least the parts I remember.FlyByNite wrote:The Imax is playing Avengers 3D in Imax format starting May 3rd I think..

Amsterdam is one of the best cities in Europe for film fans. Though there are arthouse cinemas all over the city, mainstream film fans aren't quite as well catered for.
The Pathé Tuschinski (Reguliersbreestraat 26-34) is the most famous cinema in The Netherlands and really is worth visiting, even if you aren't watching a film, to have a look at the beautiful interior. You won't have ever seen a cinema like it. Although the main screen shows big blockbusters, the smaller screens tend to show arthouse films and dramas.
If you want to watch blockbusters the Pathé de Munt (Vijzelstraat 15) just around the corner from the Tuschinski is where you want to go. Loads of screens showing all the big movies.
The only other cinema in central Amsterdam that shows blockbusters is Pathé City (Kleine Gartmanplantsoen 15-19) just off of Leidseplein. It recently had a major restoration and is now back to it's Art Deco glory and shows a mixture of mainstream and arthouse films.
The IMAX is located at Pathé Arena (ArenA boulevard 600). It's a large multiplex located out in the south-eastern suburbs of the city. I don't bother going out there myself as I can't be bothered with the journey but if you want to see a film on the biggest screen possible, then that's where you want to go.

Re: Cinema in Amsterdam?
One thing to remember when at the flix here, don't let the mice eat yer popcorn!.
Re: Cinema in Amsterdam?
I think DC is referring to the reputation that Amsterdam's cinemas have for having a bit of a mouse and rat problem. It's not just the cinemas though, i guess any city with so many old buildings is going to have a lot of rodents.
Re: Cinema in Amsterdam?
Watched The Hangover stoned at the Tuschinski. Good times, but I still dont get the hype about the flick.
