How much does it matter?

Post by jimi62471 »

So, in booking a trip for this November, I first searched the 200 euro per night hotels.. then the 150's etc.. finally I made it to some that are only 50 to 80 euro's a day.. and I found that I don't really have too much concern as long as I have a private crapper and don't get VD from sleeping in the bed.. ( but admittedly my standards may not be so high) < but I will be. After all , I am not there to admire the beauty of the inside of a hotel room.. I plan on being out and about ALL day and well into the night!!! I know you get what you pay for, but how important is a hotel room if you are just going to party? As long as I can close my eyes and not wake up in a tub full of ice with fresh stitches down my side, ( thinking of Kidney theft) HOW MUCH DOES IT REALLY MATTER? any input is welcome..

I agree, this is the way I usually travel. Spending loads of money on a fancy hotel seems such a waste of money! All I need is a bed and a shower, as long as its reasonably clean and quiet. Like you said, you're there to enjoy the city.... you'll be outside, not hanging out in your room.

Same as Bleak, I'd rather spend my cash when I'm awake.

If you are going to be out all day and night then you've already answered your question.

I have stayed in Durty Nellys, The Winston and The Bulldog.

The Bulldog tops the list for me without a shadow of a doubt now, the fact that you can get the lift downstairs and smoke weed and drink your own drinks wins it for us.

We can go to the shop and get a bottle of Jager and a pack of beers, and sit and finish the lot with a bong and then go for a pub crawl.

Plus, I get a nice 10% discount off them each stay now.

Personally if I was going with one of the lads now, I would stay in a dorm, absolutely no problem sharing air with people, infact I'd quite enjoy meeting people, and you've got your own locker and en suite bathroom, they're a bargain.

Glad I'm not the only 1 who likes staying in the Bulldog :) . 1 of the main draws for going there for me is the fact that they allow smoking in the entire ground floor place weather that be the bar or reception area and you can take your own food and beers in which I often forget about. In all honesty they have more smoking space available in there on the ground floor than any coffeeshop and you can sit in the reception area charging your phone, using your laptop or portable dvd player plugged into the electric while having a spliff and drinking your own beers. Will sure miss the place in the ban comes into force.

By the way, benstraat did you have any issues over giving your passport into reception for them to keep or where they fine with you keeping hold of it?.

try the best western leidse square hotel on Tesselschadestraat, usually good deals on easytobook.com, less than £100 a night. small clean rooms with own loo and shower, and nice professional staff. right in the glow of vondel park and the leidseplein but 10 mins walk from dam sq and the the pijp so great for smoke, beer and food. cant recommend enough if you can get the right price.
If in doubt, have a spliff

im a cheap bastard, if i could i would sleep on the street just to get a few more grams, hostels are good untill you have to share a dorm room with a bunch of blokes that are into body building and mushrooms(not the best mix imho). they were mad for hours.november is a good time to for low season, im gonna stay on a houseboat and ive got a 3 storey house with garden near artis zoo from windu for the old couple (got to feed there cat), but the price is about 80 euros a day. im out from the 11th -15th november might see you about mate..

http://www.airbnb.com/rooms/146912 Sal and I stayed in this apartment and it was awesome. It is around 44 euro a night. Noelle the chick owner was awesome, didn't care if I chauffed inside as long as I blew i out the window as much as I could, which wasn't much  A little bit out but bus stop twenty metres down the road. Coffeshop about 80 the other direction. Plenty other good cheapies on that site.

Stuart, you are a man after my own heart.. would sleep in the park if it weren't so damn cold in November. I hope to see you there.

Slip, the link said "listing no longer available".. got another?, ( i will google it too) I am getting the feeling that there are alot of people going this fall, ( last year I searched all year long and found plenty of rooms all of the time, this weekend I found alot of places already all booked up)

thanks for the ideas, ... Has anyone stayed IN the red light district? not sure that is for me, but maybe.. I was in an apartment behind it on zeedijk and it was quiet at night.. ( thanks again Matty223 for the room !!! )

Another sign of old age. I prefer quality sleep in a decent bed. Of course a more expensive place doesn't guarantee a good bed, it maybe it helps.

I've managed to make it into my 70's so a good bed is important. I like the extra security that a good hotel brings so I don't have to worry about my smart phone, mp3 player, passport, and other essentials disappearing. In my younger days, I was more of a risk taker, but now not so much. I used to see a lot of 7:00 am times coming around the corner from midnight, but now it's more of a wake-up time. It helps me get an early breakfast and hit the coffeeshops as they open, thus yielding more face time with the budtender! I enjoy getting to talk about what's happening in Amsterdam over a spliff and a cappucchino.

Hey, you can't take it with you!!

Agreed.
I spend more time in the lobby, with my own booze and weed, than anywhere else.

I use it to kick start my nights, and finish them.

They actually ask for photo ID.
I have never been a fan of handing in my passport at all, it is mine not theirs, I give them an old passport now, and keep mine in my room.
