Shaun and Bob get high (26 - 28/5/12)

Post by DunToker »

TRIP REPORT MAY ‘12

Note: Unfortunately I didn’t manage to take many notes or pictures this time, my camera was acting up and I had a pretty tight schedule so I struggled to make time for notes! Managed to get this written down a couple of hours before I left for the airport though!

“Saturday – 26/5/12 3:30AM
Earlier on the week I figured that it would be a great idea for me and Bob to stay up all night on Thursday, so that we could sleep all day on Friday and wake up refreshed for heading to the airport. What happened in reality was that we smoked our stash, stayed up till 7am watching Austin Powers films and woke up around 11am knowing that we would have to wait out a horrible, long, smokeless and (surprisingly) sunny day in Scotland! We came to our senses in the afternoon and decided to pick up one last bag before we left and a phonecall/long walk later, we were hanging out at our dealers place, smoking a few, and playing with his new pet turtle. We headed back to my house for a blunt before bed and that really knocked us out for the rest of the day. Bob is still snoozing at the moment; I probably should be doing the same. Shower, smoke, fly, voyagers!”

Everything else from this point on is written from memory, so you’ll have to bear with me when reading this, sorry!

Arrived at the airport with tons of time to spare, smoked a quick cigarette before heading in (You can’t smoke at Glasgow airport once you’ve checked in, which absolutely sucks!) and headed over to spoons for some overpriced pints of Stella and a couple of breakfast rolls! Beer always tastes better at 6am, sent me to sleep on the plane too, which I don’t think Bob was too happy about! Under two hours later we had made it to Schipol and headed straight for the train station. On the train to Centraal I thought about how smooth our journey was in comparison to earlier visits, and then I thought about getting to smoke a joint of some dam weed again! Looking at the cool graffiti beside the train tracks definitely makes your journey seem faster/more interesting! It looked like we were going to get to voyagers thirty minutes early and for that I was thankful!

The moment when you come out of Centraal and step onto the chaotic streets of the city never gets old. The first road we crossed resulted in three near-death experiences for Bob, this was his first time here and he was NOT used to the traffic! We power-walked over to voyagers as fast as we could without breaking into a run! Greeted by HB, we bought a couple of grams each and found a nice table to sit at, skin up, and see if any of the ACDers that I’d arranged to meet up with would show.

As some of you forum members already know, I made some purchase lists and budgets to take over and try to stick to as much as possible. I had my eye on the “Purple Strawberry Bliss” and the “Pink Sour Grapefruit” before arriving. Bob wanted the PSB too, so when we had a look at the up-to-date menu and saw that the Bliss was gone, we were both pretty gutted! (I was warned before I left that this would happen with a lot of places) HB pointed out the “Not So Shoreline” which he said was pretty much the same thing but with better looking buds, so Bob went for a twenty bag of that while I somehow managed to fuck up my order and accidently ended up with a twenty bag of the “Strawberry Sour Diesel” and a gram of the PSG!

Upon first inspection of the Pink Sour Grapefruit I was impressed, nice and crystally, smelled more like general good weed than grapefruit to me, but was the best bud that I’d seen since January so I wasn’t complaining!

I was about half way through rolling up a doob of that when Bob stopped me and said “Smell this.” He handed me over his bag of the Not So Shoreline to have a quick look at. I cannot stress how nice this stuff smells! It’s light and fruity but there’s something else in the smell that I find near enough impossible to explain – if god exists, he smokes the NSS.

After smoking a pure joint each that we switched half way through, I was feeling pretty good and stoned! I even got out my notepad and pen ready to take some notes, but for some reason I didn’t get that far. By this time it was 11:35 and no one new had walked in, so either everyone else decided to bail, or they were already here. That’s when I realised the latter was more likely and had a listen to see if anyone was talking about the ACD. I overheard HB talking to a guy about the forum and assumed that he must be Gapie, so I skinned up another quick joint that I could bring over to smoke. That was when I got a good look and smell of my second bag!

As soon as I popped open the Strawberry Sour Diesel, I was nearly knocked unconscious from the smell alone! You know how when you take a big bong hit and you can almost feel a giant coughing fit starting to build up inside of you? Well that’s what this strain smelled like! I had two big dense purple tipped nugs and some shrapnel in my baggie and Bob kindly offered me some of his Not So Shoreline to make a cocktail with, so I whipped up a quick one and wandered over to introduce myself.

By the time I gathered all my stuff, sparked up and walked over, Gapie was talking to two other guys, hitting all sorts of weirdly shaped bongs and pipes. “DunToker? I am Gapie, that’s treetop, and there’s Matty223!” We passed around a couple of joints and if I remember correctly, a couple of vapo bags too! At that point, PaddyIrishWoman walked over and said hi, pointing out her friend to us who looked like he was fucked and stuck to his seat on the other side of the shop! The cocktail had reached treetop and after a couple of tokes, he asked what was in it and bought some SSD – good choice! PaddyIrishWoman was skinning up at a table, so me and Bob went over to join her and I rolled another joint of the PSG. Gapie came over a couple of minutes later and handed Bob a weird looking pipe with some hash in it but Bob gave it a miss, so I hit it instead (I’ve never seen a pipe with a rush hole in my life! Did it even have water in it? ) and it was damn tasty! I smoke a lot of weed back home but never really get to try hash, so this tasted particularly rich to me! We passed around our joints to the rest of the guys and when PaddyIrishWoman’s mystery joint got to treetop, he took a draw without realising she put tobacco in it! Apparently that was the first time he smoked tobacco in like eight years! Whoops!
Gapie mentioned that him and a couple of other people were heading down to Spirit if we wanted to join them, but me and Bob were already about an hour behind schedule so we decided to leave it and make the long walk south to our hostel! I thought it was pretty cool that Gapie went round the whole coffeeshop saying bye to everyone before he left, he really is pretty popular in voyagers, and seems to know everyone in Amsterdam too!

We left voyagers stoned out of our minds and floated down Damrak, past the square and down Rokin where we arrived at out next destination – Subway for a foot long steak and cheese! :P

Nice to meet you guys. Hope you had a great trip. Didn't really remember as much of mine as I'd like but I did remember the weed in Voygers was excellent. The SSD was super.
How much did you produce?

Yeah man, or they certainly did have at the end of May! Arguably the best strain of weed I've ever smoked! Cheers for the link, your trip reporting was great!

It was good meeting you too dude! A weekend's never long enough but we made the most of it! Glad you enjoyed it!

The marinara broke my subway virginity back in 2001, my tastebuds have developed a more recent addiction for steak smothered in southwest sauce, although I can't say that it's any less messy!

Back to this trip report, I'll pick up where we left off...

Fuelled by a combination of buds and subs, we continued on past the Rembrandtplein and headed down the Reguliersgracht, stopping by Barneys Lounge for a quick buy and fly. Nothing special here, Bob got the G13 Haze for his “Haze Cocktail” and I went for the “Dr.Grinspoon” (the price has now upped to €18 a gram!) looking for a sweet tasting, energetic high. Bud Tender was nice as always, let us see and smell the weed before buying but we knew what we wanted before we walked in the door. While we were waiting to get served, we witnessed a couple of guys who I think were Scandinavian making their purchases. They explained that they had never smoked before so they were looking for something light and that they didn’t know how to roll, the BT rolled a couple in front of them and charged them €45! Now they got a drink each as well, but the joints were TINY and with giant roaches! In his defence he did roll them pure and I think it was a joint each of the two lightest strains but I still think that’s a bit steep! Anyway, we pocketed our treats and continued on towards the “Flying Pig Uptown” hostel, next to the Vondelpark.

I decided to take Bob through the park instead of along the street because our hostel was across from the bridge near the start of the park and it was a nice day, walking through the park stoned is always an Amsterdam must for me. There were a few young people with backpacks on sitting on the steps outside the pig, so it wasn’t difficult to find. We climbed the stairs, buzzed in and walked through a hallway that led to a second set of stairs going back down to the reception/bar area. The girl that served us was had a pretty distinct and whiney Glaswegian accent, we thought that was pretty funny. She talked us through the shit that we needed to know (not that we listened) and gave us our key cards, we were room 301 on the third floor. “Only three flights of stairs? That’s not too bad!” I was wrong.

Had a quick joint of our Barneys goods in the smoking lounge, the Dr.G had the characteristics of a 100% Sativa: small, scraggly buds that smelled sweet and light! The G13 Haze was a darker shade of green than I remember, with more leaves and less orange hairs, still a good amount of visible trichomes though. We rolled one each and passed them. On the inhale, the Dr.Grinspoon tasted like fire, (in a bad way) it left a bad aftertaste too and I suspected that it wasn’t flushed properly. Total disappointment for such a steep price! The G13 was significantly better, nowhere near as good as last time but was still a pretty nice smoke. I may have rolled another PSG joint before we picked up our bags and headed for our room.

One billion (that’s 1,000,000,000 not 1,000,000,000,000 for all you mainland Europeans) stairs later we were on floor three – the Dutch are crazy! Got to our room and the cards wouldn’t work, back down to reception where the dude took them off us, swiped something, then gave us them back. Second try, still no luck! We made the descent once more and the guy told us that sometimes the cards just don’t work and that we should try it a bunch of times. One more horrible ascent later, we were trying the door again and it still wasn’t working! “I’m not going down there again,” I said to Bob tiredly “I won’t make it back up!” Just as we were about to give up and wait for one of our roommates to arrive, a female member of staff walked by! We asked if she could help us and she took my card and opened the door for us first try without hassle! Bob immediately called dibs on the bottom bunk, so I climbed up the top to check out my bed – clean and comfortable, all that’s necessary. We dumped our clothes and all the other things we weren’t bringing in the cages, and then I discovered my padlock didn’t fit, so we decided to share a cage as they were big enough anyway. Back down to the smoking lounge for a Strawberry Sour Diesel joint from me and a Not So Shoreline joint from Bob, after those we were ready to go crawl around a few coffeeshops until dinner.

Our next stop was Utopia; we originally planned to go to t’Nes first to smoke stuart1976’s trip report prize, but Gapie had a barbeque to attend so he suggested we smoke it on the Sunday instead. We walked past the Leidseplein where there seemed to be some sort of concert being set up with a giant stage in front of the Bulldog, excellent. I pointed out Dolphins to Bob as we avoided trams and bikes on the narrow Leidsestraat and we gave the webcam watchers a wave when we passed the Koningspein. Bob asked me what street utopia is on, I replied with my best attempt at pronouncing the street name, NOO-ZID VOO-BUH-GAL. I assured him that although I couldn’t actually say the street name, I knew roughly where we were going! Ten minutes later, we were at the counter making some purchases. I think Nel-z-Bub served us; he was pretty cool from what I remember! I went for the first of my Kushes to put in the Kush Blunt, with a gram of KushBerry and Bob took a gram of Honey Haze for his Haze Blunt. We sat at the window next to the door and rolled up a pure joint of each. I opened my bag to find a lovely looking nug that you could tell was from the top of the plant. I’m always really impressed with how nice Indica dominant buds look but this one in particular looked delicious! I think Bob over hyped the Honey Haze a little before we got there, he seemed a little disappointed with the smell/look of his gram. It was still nice weed, I just think he was expecting a little more from it. I could feel my body going numb after a couple of draws of the KushBerry, I kept thinking how good this strain would be for pain relief and by about halfway down my eyelids were drooping to the point that my eyes were nearly shut. This was definitely a night time knockout strain. I passed Bob the KushBerry and he gave me a try of his Honey Haze joint, which tasted a lot more like honey than it smelled, a pleasant surprise after half a joint of deep intoxication. I needed a coffee and I think we both needed a little fresh air after the smokes, so we skinned up another couple of joints and Bob took our stuff to the seats outside while I ordered a coffee and a hot chocolate for Bob. (how good a friend am I?) They both looked pretty good as I carried them to our new outdoor table, the street outside was busy with tourists staring at us with interest as if we were some sort of stoner showcase, fulfilling our stereotype! I didn’t want to stick around here for much longer so I took a gulp of my coffee (which was incredible!) and sparked my pre-rolled Dr.G/KushBerry cocktail which was not so incredible. Experienced the same horrible burning sensation and was left with a disgusting aftertaste after every draw. The joint was pure so it had to be the Dr.G which I was annoyed at because I ended up leaving the second half of the joint in the ashtray which was a total waste of Kushy goodness! After giving the Dr.G a second try and still being unhappy, I decided I wouldn’t smoke anymore of it which I don’t think Bob was impressed with due to how much I paid for it and the fact that he didn’t seem to get the same harsh smoke/bad tastes as I did, (although it’s not like he smoked the half a joint I left outside Utopia!) I mentioned that he could have the rest of it if he wanted and he was happy with that. We gathered our things once again and headed towards Grey Area.

The plan at this point was to Buy and Fly from here, (I warned Bob that it was more than likely there would be a queue going out on to the street) then head round the corner to Amnesia for some toasties and a smoking session. When we arrived I couldn’t believe my eyes – Grey Area WITHOUT a queue?!? This called for an impromptu change of plans; out of all the times that I’ve been here, I only got to sit in and smoke on my first visit, every time I went back it had been way too busy. Who needs Amnesia anyway? We went over to the counter where the BT was serving an older gentleman. The man was looking for a pure sativa and he was told to try Barneys for the Dr.Grinspoon. After he was finished at the counter, I approached him and tried to explain that I suspected the current batch of Dr.G hadn’t been flushed properly and that I had a jointsworth left which he should try before paying that price for something he might not like, what came out was something along the lines of “Hey man, I’ve actually got a little bit of this left and um... You should try it or whatever,”
“Thank you, that’s very kind of you!” He replied, having misunderstood my intentions. This move earned me a moan from Bob about how I was supposed to give it to him while we sat at our coveted GA table. I went a little Kush crazy in here with a gram of Kandy Kush and a gram of Kushdee to round off my Kush Cocktail for later. Bob got a gram of Chiesel and we sat down for some bud inspection and a couple more samples! We got really stoned in here but I remember rolling a Kandy Kush joint because of how sticky and juicy smelling the weed was! Definitely the best Kush tried on its own, they were all mindblowingly good but this one in particular was just so full of flavour and provided a strong yet semi-focused body stone. Bob’s Chiesel was a notably lighter smoke, again not too intense but gave us a nice head high to go with our Kushy stone. More Diesel than Cheese I thought. Leaving a tip for the Bud Tender earned me one last “thank you!” on the way out, which isn’t too common to hear in Amsterdam. We had dinner to think about, but before that I had to try and find/lead us to Paradox for some pre-food space cakes and hashish!

This was my first time exploring the Jordaan area and I wasn’t 100% sure how to get to Paradox, I knew it was in a lane somewhere along the Bloemgracht though so we followed the Herengracht down to Raadhuisstraat then walked along to the Westermarkt. From there I managed to get a little bit lost but Bob hadn’t noticed because I was constantly walking and he was blindly following me. I smoked the last of my cigarettes looking for Paradox and every time that I went to put a stub in the bin, Bob stonedly followed me before he realised what I was doing. We had been walking for hours (more like minutes in reality) and I was about to give up and come clean that I had no idea where this place was when I saw the obscurely angled canal and all the memories of Google Earth Street View came flooding back, we were just around the corner! I really liked the open air feel of Paradox with its big open doors and the bench outside that was perfect for a sunny day. We walked in and were met by a couple of older guys behind the counter, Bob got a space cake and 0.6G (€5) of their Turkish while I browsed the menu and decided that I would get 0.6G of the Lebanon due to the fact that they were out of finger hash and that’s what I was going to get from Amnesia anyway. We initially sat inside and played with our hash which looked pretty nice. I don’t know a whole lot about hash as I’m more of a weed guy but both of our bits were little dense cubes, mine was a slightly darker shade of brown than Bobs. They were both a lot harder/less pliable than I imagined they would be so I put mine out on the table in a hope that it would soften enough for me to roll it into a sausage later on. The space cake came with instructions that were along the lines of “If you are an experienced user then eat half and see how you feel after two hours, if you are not then eat a quarter and do the same.” Bob graciously gave me about an eighth of his cake to taste and stuffed the rest in his mouth – neither of us were experienced with edibles! I decided to roll a pure joint of my Kushdee because I had ran out of tobacco and wanted to see if my Lebanon would get any softer, Bob rolled up a joint of his Turkish while we smoked mine and snacked out on some homemade cookies that the Bud tender heated up for us! We headed out to the bench to smoke that before leaving and by this point I was FUCKED and just wanted to smoke a cigarette and eat some pizza!

It wasn’t long before I found a tobacconist on the way back to the busy red light district. We went to New York Pizza for a couple of budget slices and a can of juice each (I have barely any memory of this!) and continued on to Green Place in search of some more hash as I’d heard nothing but good things about their Twizzla and Bob was interested in trying some Nepal. We got our goods and sat at the counter watching a football match that Bob claims was the Holland international team but I’m sure was Ajax, neither of us can remember who they were playing. The things that I remember about the Twizzla are that it was very soft and very strong; it was also in the top five best tasting smokes of the trip and would have been rated higher if there wasn’t such stiff competition! Bob’s Nepal looked like big lump of dark goo and when mixed with all our other highs and stones of the day, nearly put us both on a whitey! I’m ashamed to say that after a joint of each of those, I was pretty much passed out at the counter and I have no idea what bob was like but by that point, his space cake had kicked in and he needed some fresh air. That sounded good to me so we made our way back out into De Wallen for some window shopping.

The extremely tight alleyways full of weird guys and cocaine dealers are always a bit of a turn off for me, but the girls sure are pretty! It’s funny how they have devoted an entire section to fat black chicks too, whatever you’re into I suppose! We decided that we had seen enough and wandered back down the Leidsestraat towards Dolphins.

I’ve spent a lot of time in this place and I always bring my friends here and make them get a gram of the White Dolphin to see how it compares to the stuff I got in September. (absolutely destroyed me and another friend!) This time round we walked in to be greeted by a new bud tender who seemed a little weird, he didn’t actually do anything wrong, I just got a bad vibe from him. I got a drink and a blunt wrap and Bob got his White Dolphin – the wax paper bags and getting a receipt for buying your weed is always a great touch! We slowly wound our way down the ridiculously steep and narrow spiral staircase and planked ourselves on arguably the most comfortable coffee shop seating in town. Calming down a little from our mega intense hash highs, Bob had a little inspection of his White Dolphin while I struggled to roll my Kush Cocktail blunt – it seemed that I was still super stoned. The White Dolphin looked and smelled entirely different to their previous examples of this strain but I suppose that’s to be expected, given that it’s a house strain as far as I know. My first experience of it was killer, giant, heavily crystallised buds that were super dry (I’ve heard people complaining about weed that was too dry but back home that’s not an issue as a lot of the weed in circulation was damp and not cured) and had a really potent smell. After smoking it you just could not function or think or do anything at all, this was a new discovery for me – weed that was so strong that I didn’t like it! Returning home from that trip, I informed my friends that although it wasn’t my favourite strain, it was definitely the strongest that I’d smoked. I took two other friends back there on my birthday trip a couple of months later, they halved in for a gram under my recommendation but I didn’t smoke it. I did however get to see it and although it didn’t look as aesthetically pleasing, it still had that killer smell! One of my friends wasn’t particularly impressed as he had fallen in love with Barney’s G13 Haze and smoked enough of it that the other things he smoked weren’t cutting through as much; my other friend smoked a joint of it to himself just before bed and said that he felt the same as I described in September. Third time round I took Bob and although he really enjoyed the shop itself, he didn’t think the White Dolphin was anything special, rightly so! Don’t get me wrong it was still nice weed, I would have been happy with it if I got it back home but in comparison to everything we had smoked so far, it wasn’t so great. He says it was like a really light indica, not very strong and not a memorable smoke, I thought it smelled almost fruity this time but I didn’t smoke it so I can’t comment on taste or effect. Disappointing stuff, I’m hoping this has nothing to do with the 15% THC rule! Soon enough it was time for the first of our two planned cocktail blunts, the Kush Cocktail! I (somehow) eventually managed to roll my blunt up into something smokable and sparked away. The flavour was incredible; the blueberry burst flavour from the wrap itself complimented it’s deep kushy taste! It had a straight up kick from the KushBerry that mixed perfectly with the almost Bubblegum taste that the Kandy Kush provided! There was a lot of sweetness from the KushDee to round it off nicely - it was probably the nicest tasting blunt I will ever try. Bob and I both commented on how nice it was to smoke, I think we were both expecting it to be harsher than it was but it smoked so smoothly that neither of us were even coughing! The only thing that I could even consider a “downside” was the fact that it was never ending, I felt like I had been smoking this blunt for about thirty minutes and it was only half way through! I’m once again ashamed to say that as it got near the end, we decided to give it to the guys in the next booth and head back to the hostel. I was once again a complete mess!

As we walked back through the Leidseplein, there was some sort of DJ set going on and the square had become an outdoor rave! We laughed about how we would never have been able to leave here if we were with our friend that was supposed to come with us and made our way (slowly but surely) through the crowd to the other side of the square. I had this strange feeling the rest of the way back to the hostel, it was like I was so stoned that I was drunk even though I hadn’t had a beer since before I arrived! Weird but kind of cool too, so I just went with it. Back at the pig, the smoking lounge and bar area were jumping! We managed to get a couple of stools and Bob rolled a joint with the rest of his Turkish and my leftover KushDee. I can’t actually remember anything about it other than us both going on about how good a combination it was for the rest of that night and throughout the next day, so it must have been an unbelievably great tasting joint! I think that it was in both of our best interests to get an early night that night as we had done just about as much travelling as smoking and we smoked a pretty decent amount (around 20 joints/13G) so we climbed the never ending stairs for the last time that evening and by the time I reached the top, Bob was already in our room, in his bed and unconscious! I opened the door to find everyone else already asleep and as soon as my head touched the pillow, I joined them in a hazey, long awaited Amsterdam slumber...
Smoking weed doesn't make you cool... It makes you stoned!
