Pearl Jam

Post by EyesOfTheWorld »

The wife and I are coming in from Boston for Pearl Jam, June 24-27. It is my second time & my wife's first. Any other fans of PJ on the forum? Any suggestions? I was just there for a Bachelor Party back in March of 2010, so I am somewhat familiar with a few places. Stayed in a suite at the Rho last time, but going with the Westcord City Centre this time around. Being a bachelor party the first time around we tended to congregate in the RLD area with 420 as our "home base" and Rock Planet and the Winston as a couple of bars we liked. We did make it out for a canal tour at one point passing by Anne Franke's and visiting the VanGogh. Also enjoyed the beauty of Rembrant Square at one point which will be a DEFINITE RE-visit with the Mrs. on my return. The first time around was a complete whirlwind. 9 guys, just 2 days (arrived on Friday, left Sunday morning). Hit a ton of places around the RLD as well as a few not so close to there such as Rookies & Grey Area. However, we COMPLETELY missed out on the 'northwest corner' (Barney's, Dampkring, Popeye's, and the Doors.etc) Seems like I DEFINITELY want to check this area out. This time around is much more laid back. Have 3 days opposed to 2, and just me and the wife instead of 8 other dudes. Also, it's the end of June instead of the first week of March. I'm assuming the weather should be much nicer this time around. Though I'm sure that 420 will be my starting point as it's VERY close to my hotel (and my personal favorite so far), I'm looking forward to visiting some new places. Also looking to explore Jordaan which seems very beautiful and another place that we COMPLETELY MISSED the first time around. Would love any suggestions to cool outoor bars/cafes/coffeshoppes in that area. Finally, I'm thinking that Vondel Park is a must in the middle of summer perhaps under the influence of some shrooms or trufles. I am told that the Ziggo Dome (which is where Pearl Jam is playing on Tuesday and Wednesday) is a quick 15 minute train ride (train 54 I believe?) from Central Station. Any suggestions on places around there to go before the show?

My first trip and Pearl Jam decided to come to town.

Should we expect a scene out of a Cheech and Chong movie with huge amounts of smoke bellowing out of the building after the concert?

The Mrs and I will have rental scooters so our transportation choices are that or the Metro. Any advice?

Enjoy your visit. Would love to see Amsterdam in late June.

If it's your thing, perhaps get some cakes from Paradox for the PJ show.

Leave the Centrum and check out de Pijp for a local experience. Good coffeeshops and places to eat, only a short tram ride from the Dam.

I like Pearl Jam, but Cake at Paradiso rocked my visit last year.

Welcome to the forum.

You have been posted on the June Whos In Town page.

You can see who else may be in town during your stay.

Watch for Toke & Talks, I post them up to the last minute.
Or post one of your own. All I need is a date, time, and coffeeshop to post it.

By default I link your posting to your profile page here on ACD.

I can change it to a web link ( myspace, facebook, personal page )
or an email address if you want.

You can do a little practice shopping on the Coffeeshop Menus page.

First timers get my S G Collins recommendation
I think a read of this will maximize your efficiency once you get there.

How not to get hit by a bike and other stuff they forgot to tell you about Amsterdam.

I always try to plan my annual Amsterdam trip around good concerts and this year I hit a jackpot with Pearl Jam playing there.

The last time I saw them was 20 years ago.

Really looking forward to seeing them again.

I'll be in town from 24th to 29th and travelling alone.

Let me know if you're interested in a pre-show warm-up!

Hi Eyes.

We arrive in Amsterdam Monday the 26th ready for the first night gig on Tuesday. We were in Manchester for the tour opener two nights ago and can promise you that you are in for an awesome time!

Re; the Dam, more than happy to give some pointers but as a yearly visitors for the last 8 years or so, the best advice is to see what you like. Having read lots of coffee shop reviews on here; places we both love and loath we are really surprised when we read that someone had a negative view of a place we would have recommended. Guess we all see different things in different places, so like I say, go with your instinct. If it's shit, move on to the next one :D

But for our two penny's worth anyway, the couches overlooking Damrak in Hill Street Blues are a great place to while away an afternoon if it's wet outside (quite possible, even in June!). John is a big fan of The Speakeasy (left at The Grasshopper on Damrak). It's very small but generally some good deals and the pre-rolled white widow is a great way to break yourself in after the walk from Central station

Anyway if you fancy sharing a smoke drop us a line.

Peace!

Your closest coffeeshop is Hema Lunch Coffeeshop
Bijlmerplein 355, Amsterdam Zuidoost (Amsterdam)

I can't find any info on it.

How to you plan on getting to the venue?
Do your T&T at a shop near metro/tram/bus for easy transport.

Date, time, and coffeeshop and I'll post it on Whos In Town.

Enjoy

Alright.

I suggest Greenhouse Namaste https://www.coffeeshopdirect.com/GreenHouseN.html as meeting point.

It's close to a metro station which leads to the concert venue.

As for the time, sometime between 4 and 6 pm...

It takes 15-20 minutes at most to get to the gig, support act is supposed to play at 7:30.

See you at the Greenhouse Pearl Jam fans!
