Amsterdam map

Hi, I was wondering if anyone knew where to find a detailed map of Amsterdam. I'm not looking for just a centrum map but rather something that will include all of the Amsterdam area- Noord, far West and East, etc. Basically the kind of map that a resident or taxi driver might use, not something for tourists. Amazon doesn't seem to be any help, so hopefully someone here will have a suggestion. Thanks in advance.

If I was a resident or taxi driver, I might use the spiral-bound map bought at de Bijenkorf years ago. It's all in Dutch, so not a tourist map. I carry the smaller pocket-size version when I'm in town.

Nimrod, thank you for your help.

Smirks, I did use Google but thanks for the condescension. Every result searching these forums and the web in general was either an online map or some crappy Fodor's style map which only included the Eastern edge of the Jordaan, the Western edge of Artis and only went as far south as Leidseplein. Which is why I asked for the advice of my fellow travelers.

I would also check out VVV or try AKO in Amsterdam Centraal station. Failing that I use my SatNav

Use the online map and print out the parts you want. Sorry for the initial obtuse reply, I'd had a hard day.

I am working on my own coffeeshop map covering the areas mentioned by the op. It's kind of stalled in recent weeks but intend to get stuck into it again in the next few days.

To be hoinest it is hard work doing your own map even if using whats already available. What I have been doing for my purpose is to use one of the free online maps sites, took about 50 screen captures, partly due to map site overlays etc, carefully joined each capture together (which took forever) to create 1 massive map. I'm currently about 3/4 of the way through painting out irrelevant (irrelevant for me and the purpose I want to remove markings for) markings on pretty much pixel level scale using Photoshop Elements 7. Irrelevant markings is multipule placings of street names (it's a open source map site I screen grabbed so there is shit loads of irrelevant markings, repeated street name placings and crap marked on the map) and markings of places that dont suit my needs.

My intention is to strip the map down to the bare basics and use it for creating a coffeeshop map for my august visit, which once the coffeeshop map is completed I do intend to share it on here. Because I'll have stripped it down to a basic map it will mean I can also create say seperate maps of bars, clubs etc.

The area of my map goes as far west to cover and show the A10 road going south, and as far south as to show the A10 goint along part of the bottom of the map. The map also goes as far east as to cover and show Frankendael park. So it sure covers a massive area. It still has a lot of work left before I have stripped it down to a basic map painting out what I dont want\need (doing all the repair work to the map to once I've rubbed out the unwanted markings etc) in order to get a clean map.

But as said once I've done the coffeeshop map I do intend to share it on here with anyone who might want to try a different printable map thats covers a bigger area.

This is the area 95% of visitors visit.

If you have a smart phone there are many Amsterdam map apps. Some work with the GPS.
