Right, i should have finished this and put it up a year ago, but im the worst for these kind of things and throw in a bit of ganja and its magnified :P Been reading through other trip reports and enjoy them so much, had promised to put my own one up and felt a bit guilty for not doing so!

Going back to the dam so while rummaging through my documents folder found this which i had written up, was gonna trash it but thought fuck it its not finished but might as well put it up, it covers most of the first day anyway  Really wish i had bothered to finish it, as now for the life of me i cant remember barely any of it. So anyway here you go...

-----------------

Ok, so I now know I should have at least attempted to take some notes while I was out there.

Probably be a bit boring for you hardcores out there as I didn’t make it to any of the coffeeshops that had been recommended on here or try any of the weed (I think?)! Turns out after 6yrs away I’m a bit of a lightweight.

Anyway…

Tuesday 28 June

I’m up early for a change. I wonder why?

Pretty uneventful journey to the airport apart from the thunderstorms raging down on us as we slowly moved along the motorway in some crap people carrier. Cab driver gave one word answers back! damn hope this isn’t a sign of things to come I thought! Going to be there on my own. Maybe I just asked him some shit questions? Ah well who cares.

Finally get to the airport and Luton have this thing where you have to drop off at the bay and pay a quid to open the barrier to get out! Paid the cabbie the fair but no change on me… sorry mate! Cab driver had to pay to get out of the airport! I apologised and carried on, what could I do? No change on me. So, into the airport ahead of time, got my euros sorted and something to eat. Better get some food in now I thought. Checked in, was only taking hand luggage so whizzed through, usual waiting around for the plane. 10-20 mins delay as usual. Finally on the plane heading to the dam!

Think I got there at 7pm-ish. Was very hot. Called the apartment people and no answer. Shit, here we go I thought. Called again no answer. Ahhh the code, I’m messing up the code. Asked around and apparently I was doing it right. Oh no, what the hell do I do now? Waited around, headed outside and had a smoke. Phone rings! it’s the apartment chick. Yes! Saved! Right, have to head into central where I got to call some other guy who’ll show me to the apartment. Had to queue for a ticket as I didn’t have a clue. Got the ticket, made sure I had correct platform. Did not want end up in the situation I was in a few yrs ago here on a stag do when we ended up on the wrong train, heading towards Belgium or was it Germany? How? I have no idea, but I’ll always remember the female ticket inspector looking at our tickets, reading central station and just laughing in our faces. The acres and acres of fields we were passing really should have given us a clue but there you go, you live you learn. We learnt the hard way, had to wait 30min to the next stop, then another 20-30 min for the next train heading to the dam.

Anyway, this time no mistake. Right train. Just a few stops and im there. Great! I can see buildings and it actually looks like we’re heading towards a city and not just endless fields. Finally get there call the guy, slight problem, apartment not ready. Here we go I thought. No problem he says I got another one and its bigger. Ok fair enough, have to meet him there. Could have at least met me didn’t have a clue where I was heading. Was the road parallel to Damrak, headed up there then all of a sudden thunderstorms, rain pouring down, me drenched with my bag no idea where this place was. Oh well get some cover and have a smoke. Raining calmed a bit, cig finished called him and I was more or less there. Apartment finally found, met the guy, checked out the place and thought fair enough this will have to do, was late anyway and couldn’t be arsed sorting another out. Bad move. Nothing worked, no wifi, no hand towels, tv didn’t work, barely any cutlery. Didn’t realise how much of a pain in the arse the separate toilet was going to be either! Oh well. What can you do? The couch, the view and bed were great. Right I need a smoke, sorted myself out and headed out then thought id better get some supplies in, drinks, crisps etc, as I sure wont be able to do it when stoned! Asked around and theres a supermarket type thing 5 mins up the road, great. Albert heign or something? Supplies boosted I headed back to the app dropped the stuff off and finally headed out in the dam.

No map, no knowledge of where the shops were I did what I knew best from my last visit and that was to just head into the red light. Ambled around a bit just smiling at all the tourists as the stumbled around. This don’t seem to bad I thought. Have to admit that the atmosphere definitely felt different to when I was last here. Not sure why, but I did feel different, maybe as I was older, who knows? Seemed a lot more relaxed and not so many street dealers around, no large groups of lads screaming out some football chant. Then I realised it was a Tuesday, its bound to be quiet! So, finally settled on I think it was called Babas, looked cool enough to me. Yup that’s me for a bit I thought. In I went, straight over ordered a drink and asked about the bud. Shows me to the bud cave. Tiny almost cupboard like part of the bar. Nice. Check out the menu and asked him what he’d recommend. Didn’t want anything too banging for first smoke. Settled on (…checks online for coffeeshop menu lol, damn its not there, for the life of me I cant remember a bloody thing! I knew I should have written this straight away!!) Ok I cant remember. This is going to be hard. I got some hash I know that I think it was morrocan something or other. It was squidgy anway if that helps. Now the bud was either desert eagle or Amnesia something or not? Cant remember, sorry. Was about a gram of each. Cost? Yeah right.

So I sat down, green goes first, always. Pulled a bud out and oh my god it just felt right in my fingers, cant explain it, it kinda stuck but it didn’t stick. Lovely, smelt so damn good. Held it in my fingers and started examining it, to this day I don’t know why. Its not like I know what im looking for, quickly realising I might look like a mad man to the others there I just started to pick a few bits off and began to roll my first joint of the trip. Good old fashioned fingers for me, none of this grinder malarky. I packed a fair bit into this joint and the amount of tobacco I put in was merely a token gesture. Joint rolled, looked around and soaked in the atmosphere, nice seat by the window, could see the dam go by, sparked the beauty up and took my first toke. WOW. Been a good few weeks since my last smoke and about 6-7 years since I was last here but WOW. This hit me straight away. Maybe I shouldn’t have been so stingy with the tobacco, nah this is the dam, I should hang my head in shame for putting some tobbaco in there in the first place. Theres probably bud police that patrol the coffeeshops looking for fools like me. Few more tokes and the effects were starting to seriously kick in, warmth all over etc. Yes! This is what it was all about. Was getting that tickly feeling in my throat, trying my best not to cough and look like an idiot! Nice. Smoked away and had to put it down half way through, it hadn’t beaten me but I did need a break. Few mins later and I managed to finish it off. Feeling absolutely stoned now I thought what better time to try and roll this hash. Went straight in and started tearing little bits of the squidy hash off and lining them up in my paper. Only took a few seconds to type that line but converted into actual Amsterdam time that joint did take me a good 20-25-30mins?? to roll. Man, I was stoned and this hash was annoying to roll a joint with. Hope it smokes good.

----------

Well thats as far as i got  and i guess the gear was good as everything is pretty hazy after that! All i can say for definate is that it an awesome time was had, and i cant wait to go back. 8)

it's like some found pages in a much larger manuscript that is missing. Entertaining and thanks for posting it up. Enjoy your next trip and take a notebook

haha, cheers guys. yeah wish i had taken some notes, but you know how its is...especially as i hadnt been there for a while and hadnt smoked that heavily for a while either. just got caught up in the excitment of smoking and wandering about lost and stoned, days just flew by and i had accidently brought some 'souveniers' back with me so the week after that when i got home was written off as well!

Kept meaning to add to it as i had flashbacks but like i said, lazy bastard!

always next time eh?
