Dutch skeptical wietpas
AMSTERDAM - The recently introduced in the southern provinces wietpas can count on little support in the Netherlands. This is evident Wednesday in a poll by Maurice de Hond.

The wietpas, on 1 May was introduced in Limburg, North Brabant and Zeeland, requires people who want to visit a coffee shop to become a member of this particular coffeeshop.
The pass is only issued to people who live in the Netherlands, the nuisance and coffee shops, partly caused by drug tourists, reducing.
The national introduction follows in 2013. This allows for drug tourists no longer be diverted to municipalities and Nijmegen. There is currently talk of more influx.
On the question whether the introduction of the wietpas a good idea 60 percent of respondents answered negatively. Judging by the voting behavior in the Lower House elections of 2010 the only applause only found under the CDA voters. It says a small majority of 54 percent is a good idea to find.
There is a lot more for fear that the wietpas nuisance of illegal trade on the street will provide. 80 percent of respondents expect that trade will increase. There is, therefore, a majority (60 percent) for the immediate stopping of the introduction.
No ban
A minority of respondents (30 percent) believes that soft drugs should be totally banned in the Netherlands. Such a measure is supported by 49 percent of the Dutch in 2010 on the CDA voted and only 5 percent of Green voters.
On the full release of the use of soft drugs dominated decent division. 45 percent of respondents would welcome it, while 49 percent opposed. 6 says no view.

With Rokerij closing, it does seem a gradual dismantling of the coffeeshop system in the Netherlands, especially Amsterdam.
Really is truly disappointing the whole affair. It has done so little harm and drinkers are mostly to blame... but I will not go on and beat the dead horses.
Amsterdam is such a wonderful city to me for reasons beyond the coffeeshops. When I'm there, I spend plenty of money locally, and enjoy all of the museums while I bike around during my 2 week stays. I also visit neighboring cities, such as Rotterdam, Den Hague, Utrecht, etc. and patronize these cities as well.
Let's hope the Dutch citizens (whom this is theoretically to benefit) make efforts to curb this silly banning of tourists from coffeeshops.

I'm in Eindhoven.. and I agree.. stupid weed pass.
Grasshopper closed - he was caught with harder drugs
New Wave closed - caught with more than the limit
Bakkerij said he had had one customer in the first 3 days of the new weed pass.
Heard recently that more coffeeshops are laying off staff..
The weed pass is only available to residents (you need a stamped certificate from your town hall with your social security number if you don't have a dutch passport) and only payable by bank card (i.e. not cash). It's like Big Brother .. monitoring your usage. You can only be a member of ONE coffeeshop.
Gone is the relaxed social atmosphere.. it totally needs to change back.
