What about the impacts of some recent coffeeshop purchases? Shouldn't De Dampkring be alone without Pink Floyd and Dampkring II and Tweede Kamer be grouped since they were purchased by the owners of Boerejongens? What about Sanementereng which has been closed for at least eighteen (18) months should it still be included? What about Resin which is alive and well, has connections to Soma, and isn't far from Centraal Station? Shouldn't Abraxas II be linked with Abraxas?

To be honest, I wasn't completely up to speed on the Dampkring situation so thanks for clarifying that for me.

Apparently there is some prospect of Sanementereng re-opening so I'm inclined to keep it in. More importantly, I like the place

Overall I see your comments as an argument for trying to do a mega poll of all shops. Maybe I'll have another think about that idea over a Volcano...

Now we know who gave Sanementereng its 1 vote :) Actually, it has been high on my list for nearly two (2) years so I was disappointed during my last two (2) trips when it wasn't open. Worse yet, it looks like it may not be open for my next trip scheduled for October.

As for the Dampkring situation, I remember reading about the acquisition by Boerejongens. but it would be good to have one of the locals verify the situation.

Curious to know how much extra maintenance a mega poll would require. It seems like it leaves open the possibility of a lot of coffeeshops being in the poll with no votes. What's the probability that someone will pick Bronx or Trinity as a favorite. The flip side is that at least they would be in the poll to serve notice of their existence and become a target for someone's adventure. Hey, a new menu to add to coffeeshopmenus.org! 8)

There are currently 688 shops still open according to my database but I just checked and, even if I change the settings from the current maximum of 50, the most options phpBB will allow in a poll is 127.

Hmm... might be not as smart as I think but maybe we could first devide them into different polls. i.e. your favourite shop in the center, east, west, south... then we take the winners of those polls into the "three favourite poll". At least it would be a start to get rid of some unknown/unpopular shops.

While 't Nes is a fine place, it is no longer a CS. Neither is Rookies. Make way for real shops.

What about 't Keteltje? You never know who's going to post a meet-up there.

That didn't work then!

It was compiled from the most popular shops on the main site. It included all types and all towns, that's why Nes and some smart shops were in there.

Interesting that there were a flood of responses to that idea and little to the earlier suggestion. Maybe that means that the earlier idea was better if fewer people objected.

Rookies no longer a coffeeshop! When did that happen?

If we can't have a mega poll with every shop in it then I'm inclined to go back to 50 Amsterdam shops again. Somebody will always complain that their favourite is missing but I think we can get a reasonable consensus.

I'm still thinking of a new poll based on the existing one but drop Baba (no votes), The Old Church (1 vote), Rick's Café (1 vote) and Rokerij chain (closed) and replace with 1e Hulp, Rusland, Boerejongens/Bij and Utopia. I could maybe be persuaded to squeeze in Resin. The idea of breaking up the chains and including all of the shops individually is quite appealing too but that would mean dropping some more or having more than 50 in the poll.
