Weed Wars
Weed Wars
If anyone wasnt aware. There was a documentary in 2011 on the Harbourside Dispensary in California. It's a very good documentary, think it's a 5 parter. Just the general day-to-day life of a large dispensary.

If you have not seen it, there is the first episode. After watching the second episode about how a tincture almost alleviated all this mans sons epilepsy, it made me tear up. Not going to lie.

Re: Weed Wars
I enjoyed watching these too, but could only find the first three episodes on youtube. Wikipedia says four were made
Hilarious some of the 'patients' queueing up to get their weed for such debilitating ailments as 'anxiety'. If they ever opened these in the UK a lot of people are gonna be coming down with anxietyitis

Re: Weed Wars
Episode 4 is by far the best. Mostly about 4/20, but a good backstory on the push for medicinal acceptance.

... and very sad at the same time. Going along with your sarcasm, this is a perfect example why stoners are their own worst enemies.free_phil_spector wrote:Hilarious some of the 'patients' queueing up to get their weed for such debilitating ailments as 'anxiety'.
Sad indeed...
Happy weed wars, please burn safely...

Re: Weed Wars
just in 10 mins ep.01, looks grand.
anybody in the know: will Discovery UK ever show/have shown it?!
I'm sooo jealous of the medical care there and, Uncle Ron before ya start, I'd certainly qualify, no scams: PTSD, bowels' syndrome, occasional extreme back & hip pains to name just a few of my ailments...

I don't wanna seem like a douche, but while I realize that some people will fake ailments to get their MMJ cards - as a sufferer of anxiety, I can't help being slightly offended by this post. Please don't dismiss anxiety as a "fake" disease. It can be extremely debilitating to a persons life, to the point where some sufferers can't even venture outside their home without taking some form of medication. I've personally been in a situation where I was on the verge of becoming physically addicted to benzodiazepines (all happily prescribed by my doctor), and if I hadn't had access to cannabis, I'd probably be a benzo-addict today.free_phil_spector wrote:I enjoyed watching these too, but could only find the first three episodes on youtube. The problem with ailments such as depression and and anxiety is that they don't show on the outside. A person suffering from anxiety can seem perfectly normal on the outside, but might be going through a living hell on the inside. For some people, cannabis can help them manage their day-to-day lives, and is a much safer alternative to benzos or antidepressants.

Hey sorry, no offence intended. Maybe I should have thought more before posting. I wasn't trying to downplay anxiety or any of the ailments people on the show had as reasons for smoking (I suffer from depression myself) - it was just a random example of how easy it seemed for them to get some weed - I was thinking mainly of the scene where the guy tells his doctor he's suffering anxiety but doesn't want to take pills for it and she just breezily says "Ok, let's get you some cannabis for that"
Apologies once again.

It's all good, man. I know what you meant, and I may have overreacted a little bit
On topic: I've watched all the episodes of the show, and I honestly can't decide if I prefer the Dutch or American approach to the most. With the Dutch shops, you have zero quality control and the weed will often be either skuffed or insufficiently flushed (and I'm not even gonna go into the whole problem with the backdoor being illegal). On the plus side, anyone can walk in and buy their weed right off the street. There's no need for people who just want to smoke recreationally to hide behind some fake ailment, and people can consume their drug of choice without fear of retribution from the law.
As I haven't experienced the American model first-hand, I can only speak from what I've seen on Weed Wars and various Youtube channels, but it seems like the general quality of cannabis in the American dispensaries is much higher than it is in the Dutch coffeeshops. The dispensaries (well, good ones anyway) control the quality of the weed, and some will even have the product tested for specific levels of individual cannabinoids. The downside is that you have to get a MMJ card, and if you just want to smoke recreationally, you have fake an illness.
I'd probably prefer a mix of the two: a model combining the freedom of the (current) Dutch system with the knowledge and quality control of the American one would be a great thing indeed... For now, I guess I'd just settle for possession of cannabis not being a criminal offense where I live, lol
