hey was wondering whats goin on with chaging my signature, im kinbda bored of my one which is pretty long, but when i try and change it to a shorter one it says that its too long.
its not really that important, just wonderin if its just my comp

Ah! That’ll be down to me I expect. I reduced the maximum signature length to 50 characters a while ago.
Personally, I’m not keen on seeing long signatures or signature images repeated endlessly through threads. It makes the threads much longer and harder to follow and, frankly, whilst a jokey signature might be funny the first time, it soon gets boring. I think a good joke, a nice picture or a profound statement should be posted once in the body of a post.
By reducing the length to 50 characters I was particularly trying to make it harder to put images in signatures. It’s a bit of a blunt instrument to achieve this goal but the only one available. To be honest, I’m tempted to disallow signatures altogether.
We had a poll once about images in signatures that came out conclusively against them. If anyone has any strong opinions on signatures generally, feel free to reply here.

I mut say the topics are easily forgotten, where sigs are everlasting, but who am I to argue with concencus?
But, one thing I can point out, is that there ARE phpbb mods (generally called hacks) that do things like disallow bbcode or images in signatures, or limit image size in signatures, or limit number of images in signature. A good wbesite for finding these is http://phpbbhacks.com . All hacks submitted are hand checked to contain nothing but non-malicious text, and they're all generally easy to install with ftp access. Maybe browse around one day and find a few you like and ask your friend peter to install them for you. =D (among my personal favorites are quick reply and ajaxed)
