i keep thinking its not gonna happen in AMS.
I agree. However, if it does, then the Dutchies will find a creative way around this legislation. Recall, that mushrooms were banned a while ago yet smartshops are still selling fungi.

So, what if one were to open a bar. And yeah, maybe the prices for, say, a cup of tea are a little high, around 8€ to 16€ for a cup. But instead of offering free peanuts or other bar stuff, they hand out free samples of weed and hash to the tea connoisseurs. No, they're not selling the weed. Just keeping their customers happy.

Then you'd just need to map the different teas on the menu to strains and off you go ;-)

"I'd like a cup of Earl Grey"
"Ah, yes, the current batch of Super Silver Haze is wonderful. Here you go."
"Peppermint tea, please"
"Here you go, try this gram of LA Confidential with your tea."

They wouldn't even need to recoup the cash through high drinks prices. They could charge an entry fee on the door of their bar and have complimentary weed on the tables. Sounds crazy, but if someone had suggested to me they could get round the booze ban by splitting the coffeeshop/bar in two I have thought that was crazy as well.

Yep, ignoring the demands of all your constituents and doing whatever you want because you're a power hungry moron. That's how to run a democracy.

Oh wait.... dictatorship. I meant dictatorship.

How can this guy even hope for votes after a statement like that? I mean I know it doesn't matter now he's in office but I like to think that if any MP over here said anything similar their career would be over.

Maybe he spent too much time in the RLD and he's got a guilty conscience. There's none so pious as a reformed sinner you know. :D

+1 hihi

But try to relax people, according to dutchnews : "Coalition negotiators get down to business, no more media comments". So it'll probably be weeks before any new infos will become available ... biting my nails in the meantime :?

Also this just in: "Confusion as queen is invited to catch up on coalition progress" Maybe she can beat some sense into the politicians ;)

Brilliant, so they have decided to join the global war on pot smokers. Never thought I'd see the day.

At least they are doing a trial run to see how it works... and it doesn't. So let's wait for the evaluation and the new government. The dutch are usually pragmatic, that's what gave us coffeeshops in the first place!

Well that's it then, I for 1 will probably not set foot in the country again and certainly wont next year even if they reverse this decision. I intend to try another country next year as im not staying in the waiting and see club as it seems I and others would be waiting far longer that is feasible before I and others need to confirm travel plans for next year. And I for 1 will not be buying off a street dealer for several reasons 1 of the main being a serious risk of a criminal record if caught doing so and another supporting what would be a major crime problem in another country. Anyone who thinks it will be fine to buy off a street dealer is plain stupid.

Nope, think I'll do Prague next year as always liked the look of the architecture there. For me if Amsterdam is excluded the delay and recent reports suggesting it won't be excluded will mean the earliest I would be able to go back won't be untill mid 2014.
