Does anyone know if a bike can be taken on a train from Amsterdam to Alkmaar?

Bikes can be taken on any of the NS trains outside of rush hour. More info on the subject here

Bought one of these the other day and this bloke said that is all you need if you can get on and off without your feet touching the ground.
