Identification in Coffee Shops
Identification in Coffee Shops
Do I need to bring my passport with me everywhere to get into coffeeshops? Im 26 but look VERY young. I have a US drivers licence is that acceptable in coffeeshops? I really dont wanna risk losing my passport. Thanks in advance

Re: Identification in Coffee Shops
I just carried my passport with me everywhere I went well in Europe, does sound sketchy but as long as it's in you keep it in your front pocket it should be fine.
For actual legal purposes I think most shops prefer actual passports, some actually mandate it (utopia?), though I think I did see a few people use drivers licences as ID in some shops. Also i'm 21, and didn't even get checked in at least half the shops I went to so yeah it's pretty random, but best to just keep it with you anyways and always make sure it's back where it belongs before you start smoking haha.

My U.S. driver's license seems to be adequate ID when asked for.

Re: Identification in Coffee Shops
Never had a problem with my photo drivers license in the past. i believe that dutch law states you must be able to indentify yourself at all times. if you enter a coffeeshop you must do so in regard to the dutch law so if you cant legally identify who you are, where your from and your age then you shouldnt enter regardless if your 18 or over it makes no difference.
"If you can, then do "
Re: Identification in Coffee Shops
Simple and effective...
1. Make 2 copies of all official documents that you bring, ex. passport, drivers license, etc...
Always leave one copy at home or with someone while abroad. The other is to be secured in the hotel or elsewhere for immediate access.
I scanned my passport, drivers license, and other documents into my computer, and am able to print a copy whenever needed. Not bad, eh?
2. Always have your passport on your person. If you are worried that you might lose it or any ID, that's what copies are for.
Also, if loosing a passport is the reason for carrying around other forms of ID (wtf?), you might want to be careful walking and chewing gum at the same time as well. Just saying...
I've had 100% success with this method of traveling with official documents over the past 47yrs. Other methods can't compare... Too easy...
Simply too easy... way too easy...

i have never been asked for ID in any coffeeshop ever!!
the law as for coffeeshops is they must be sure you are over 18!!
@ 55 anyone can see i am over 18 so no problem.
So ID is not a compulsory for everyone only if there may be a question mark over age.
all the best

actually you are wrong if you dont have id when asked by the tender , you will be asked to leave, then again most shops dont ask for idbedge wrote:High allcornish pixie wrote:Never had a problem with my photo drivers license in the past. i believe that dutch law states you must be able to indentify yourself at all times. if you enter a coffeeshop you must do so in regard to the dutch law so if you cant legally identify who you are, where your from and your age then you shouldnt enter regardless if your 18 or over it makes no difference.
