Do we have a Weitpass response poll setup yet?
Has anyone already setup a poll to quantify the user impact in terms of visits and money?
Should we?
Should we?

Yeah we should do this. I mean alone i travel twice a year to the Dam. It was with my wife but sadly she passed away. But think alone how much the Dam makes a year just from this forum alone. Ok not directly from this forum but from members of the forum. i mean alone im about 2 grand a year in the dam. Just spending money and transport(not flights). So think about how many members travel to the dam even more than that a year. I know 2grand is small in the grand scheme of it. But if we all spend that then that adds up to a whole lot of wonga. So i think there economy stands to lose a fortune. Even residents are refusing to sign up as it makes them out to be a drug addict. How much do u spend a year in the DAM!!!!

This year alone it has been about 2000 euro. Not a lot in the grand scheme of things but at least 500 euro went in hotels about 200 euro in foodie places, 50 euro in chipkaarts, 200 went to museums etc. The rest I just wasted in coffeeshops and t'Nes.

Thanks for the responses.
I would estimate I spend abou $2000 each year on my Amsterdam trip.
Seems like this is abou the average.
I figure Amsterdam and the greater Netherlands must be getting hundreds of thousand of Cannabis tourist. The loss of this income into the country is enormous.
Hopefully the Dutch are too $ savey to let this windfall go. If not, have to find another Mekka.

The Dutch are about the most savvy people I know when it comes to saving a buck. Not everyone will spend 2K on their trip but a good many will spend more. Now, if the Wietpass comes in and the cannabis tourists decide to go elsewhere there will be major job losses. Not just the coffeeshops but the bars, the restaurants, head shops and all the other ancillary businesses. The promulgated idea that taking out the whores and weed will lead to more straight tourism is a fantasy and a fallacy. Most of the tour groups you see are delighted to be able to mingle with the great unwashed.
It is an integral part of Amsterdam's allure, without it you may as well naff off to any other city that has great architecture and sit in a bar sucking down a few beers.
How many jobs are directly or indirectly funded by cannabis tourists? I would bet it is in the thousands. Would the savvy Dutch government like to fund them when they are out of a job? I do not think so.
Pragmatism will prevail.

I'm curious to know what measures the coffee shops themselves are taking should the worst happen?
Has registrstion for the weedpass actually opened? If so, who has applied? Are the shops offering exclusive membership deals. Are there any benefits to registering with one shop over another?
Any how, I'm hoping to be in Amsterdam the first week of december and hopefully I'll be able to find out this information for myself, while enjoying a good old smoke

Dear Grey Area Fans, coffeeshop visitors and fellow smokers coming to Amsterdam, some international media have been reporting incorrectly about the current Dutch coffeeshop situation. But let's put it to you real simple...
AMSTERDAM COFFEESHOPS ARE STILL OPEN TO EVERYBODY!!!
The April 2012 decision from the Dutch Court has put the Weed Pass in official effect in the 3 southern Dutch provinces (Limburg, Brabant, Zeeland). Tourists can't buy anymore and the Dutch have to register themselves as a smoker to be able to buy weed.
Last night's election has shown that Holland is politically totally divided. The smaller party's hardly got any votes and the major right- and left wing party got almost all the votes. The way it stands now is that the right wing party that invented the weed pass have 41 seats in the house and our biggest left wing party that is opposed to the weed pass have 39 seats in the house. That means that the right wing party can take the lead in negotiations to form a new government.
It seems that whether they want to or not the right wing party will have to work together with the left wing party in forming a government. It then all depends on the coalition negotiations and if the left wing party is willing to fight for the exit of the weed pass. If they find other issues more important and 'give' the weed pass to the right wing party it is all over for the coffeeshop as we all know and love it.
But even if the Weed Pass would go into effect for the rest of Holland on January 1st 2013 there is still a lot of resistance from the various (big) cities. Amsterdam, Haarlem, Rotterdam and many other cities are strongly opposed. And all our northern provinces have said they don't want to implement it.
The mayors from these cities have seen now that in the 3 southern Dutch provinces the illegal trade on soft-drugs and all the problems that come with that have increased explosively over the last months. They fear the loss of jobs and the decrease in income from Cannabis Tourists. So it is not at all known what the Mayors will do and if the Weed Pass will be enforced in many Dutch cities if it would come into effect.
The chance that Amsterdam will implement / enforce the Weed Pass is i.m.h.o. still very slim to none!
The newly proposed 15% THC law is currently just a concept law that still has to be discussed and approved by the Dutch Parliament.
When new information on these subjects comes in, we will update you!
So no more cancelations of trips now please! It's still business as usual and nothing has changed!
Hope to see you in Amsterdam soon!
Your loyal Grey Area Team

Also, this just in: http://www.dutchnews.nl/news/archives/2 ... lub_pa.php
Key Quotes: "The paper says sources indicate the chance of the card being introduced nationwide from January 1 is very small. "
But also "However 'foreigners' would be refused entry, the paper says, without defining whether this also includes foreign nationals officially resident in the Netherlands or just tourists."
Wondering how they will manage that without breaking any anti-discrimination laws...

Weed pass cancelled!! <from Green house!!

some other info!!
AMSTERDAM (AP) â?? The incoming Dutch government has ditched plans for a national "weed pass" that would have been available only to residents and that would have effectively banned tourists from Amsterdam's marijuana cafes.
However, under a provisional governing pact unveiled this week, cities can bar foreigners from weed shops if they choose.
The pact says that it wants only Dutch residents to have access to marijuana cafes, but leaves enforcement up to cities. Amsterdam opposes a ban, which would hurt tourism.
Some cafe owners said Tuesday that they are satisfied Dutch weed policy will remain unchanged, while others criticized the lack of clarity.
Marijuana trafficking is technically illegal in the Netherlands, but people can't be prosecuted for possession of small amounts and the drug is sold openly in designated "coffee shops."
