Hurricane/Superstorm Sandy/and now Snowstorm Nemo

Post by grateful deb »

Wow, what a wild trip this last week has been. We are very lucky and it has been nothing short of a miracle; nothing of ours was wrecked or destroyed due to the horrific winds and severe tidal surges. So many houses and cars were hit by gigantic trees and houses flooded beyond use by the rising waters.

On the street just behind us I counted 4 smashed cars and 5 houses with trees either laying on them or though the roofs. There were hundreds of very large trees lying on so many power lines, smashed transformers, downed lines everywhere! We are just starting to clean up. Whew!!!! (We feel extremely fortunate that this is all that happened to our family because we know that other communities have been wiped out almost completely).

And to top this off, there is very little gas for the cars. Where you can find it, there is a 1-2 hour wait on line, usually with a $40 limit. Everyone is carrying around extra gas cans in their cars on the oft chance that when they get gas, they will fill up for a bit extra.

Power was out at our house for 6 days. The street in front of ours still does not have power. It is cold and many have either no heat or no place to live. The schools in my neighborhood have been closed since last Monday. Can you believe it? The kids are getting as weary as their parents.

Oh, had to pick up my 85 year old parents because they don’t have power on their street. They wouldn’t leave their freezing cold house till I almost crowbarred them out of their house to stay here cause we have power and heat now. Those old stubborn depression-era folks...

We have a nor’easter bearing down on us tomorrow, BTW.

OK, now for the absolute worst part- we have almost run out of weed….
Pray for us!

What a long strange trip it is.

well, you know times have changed an awful lot lately, maybe you should ask your folks, they just might have a little something special stashed away for emergencies that would see you all through the hard times until things ease a bit and new supplies can get through ...

best of luck

Thanks guys! I appreciate the good thoughts.

My parents don't have any pot cause they used to bum off of me, a long time ago.... But I noticed my dad having a wee bit of brandy this morning. He said it was medicinal....

It snowed/sleeted sideways all day. 2 inches on the ground. I so hope the power doesn't go out again! I feel bad for all the folks who still don't have power. It's wicked cold out.
Over 100,000 homes and businesses have been severely damaged and destroyed on Long Island (where I live). Alot more in New jersey and Queens and Staten Island.

A bright spot - going over to my friend's house to smoke a joint she wrangled up. I had to lie to my parents about why I was going out around the block in a bad storm. Feels like being a teenager again! :)

Also, I filled up my car's gas tank today! Only had to wait for 30 minutes to do so. Things are getting better...

Last night's storm has dumped 5-7 very wet inches of snow to my area. Phone and cable lines are lying in my driveway, pulled down by the tree that was frozen to my car. Of course school was canceled yet again. Tomorrow will be 2 weeks without school.

Short list of things to do today:
1. Call utilities to fix wires
2. Shovel
3. Look for pot - that crisis has not been amended yet. Anyone care to airlift us some MJ? Some mighty desperate folks here (Looking after our elderly parents is draining, I wonder if we were so obnoxious as kids.... Payback's a bitch....)

Yup, pestilence is next....

enduring a natural disaster of biblical proportions is a test of one's metal. You have my sympathy and empathy. I can't help with your current situation unless you want to PM your utility info and I could sit on hold for you  If the schools are closed there are your snow shoveler  Thoughts are with you.

Hi Everyone,
My situation has gotten much better. Just dropped off my parents at their house. Spent the day cleaning their fridge  and shopping and general stupid shit to reorganize them.

The gas lines have almost vanished in my neck of the woods since our Gov finally implemented odd/even gas rationing. About time.
Many people still don't have power in the area. People are protesting at the electric utility headquarters. Might be a state/military take over.... Lovely.....

The good news-I scored a bit of MJ- green crack it's called. It could be called dog shit I would still welcome/smoke it!!!!

Going out to dinner to celebrate (how incredible fortunate we are) with friends. (Their parents are still with them, their house and cars were totally flooded).
Been a crazy 2 weeks. Thank you all for your kind words and good wishes. I needed them!

But there still so many people hurting in New York. I'm gonna go and volunteer somewhere next week cause they need people to help.

Aw come on. What's with all the natural disasters at my house?????

We got 29 inches of snow last night!!!

This time I'm prepared... Stocked up on the green and the white (Petrone)
There will be no running out of pot during this (mini) disaster.

Just shoveled for a zillion hours with the family...
Gonna go light a fire and curl up with a good jay......

I got a new technique for smoking in the house. Light a fire and just blow it up the chimnney.

Gonna miss my boy when he goes to college next year, but not the subterfuge..

Just bought a roof rake. I am currently outside shoveling a rediculous amount of snow off my roof before the roof caves in. The gutters are bowing a bit.

And we are getting lots of rain. Very heavy on top of 3 feet of snow.

Of course I have a bowl in my pocket. Taking a break to send this update.

Just gotta watch those wires lol

Glad you like the storm updates Winnie.

I've been following the news, you've sure got some real snow going on over there. A couple of inches here and we grind to a halt.

How long has it been snowing for, and whats the forecast?

Keep on truckin :D. A little toon to keep you going .

What a long strange trip it is.
