Uk cannabis consumers!

Post by Addlestoner »

Well in light of the large ammounts of progress the americans been making across the pond through vigourous campaigning to change the publics attitude. I think us in the Uk need to ramp up the campaigning, We have got a lot of people on the political side but no one on the streets and in the towns!

What im hoping we can do in this thread is discuss ideas and try to form a general consesnus on a set of facts that we can back up with science. So im happy to promote the benefit in the fact it helps alot of people with cancer eat and also deal with the pain, but regardless of my own beliefs i dont think we should start of by saying things like it cures cancer.

Then i am hoping someone with photoshop skills will pop up and design some leaflets, which i will happily invest in printing and distributing if the volunteers are there.

Then i want to organise groups of volunteers to distribute the leaflet but we will need to adhere to the agreed facts and co ordinate our campaigning.

I know this is only a small start but i want to get the ball rolling, im going to post this on a couple of sites and hopefully in the end we can come together and take the town centres by storm.

but as the first rule i say if you need/want to consume cannabis while campaigning carry a pack of gum and some deodarant to cover the smell, Because even though i see nothing wrong in cannabis and i personally love the smell i do feel it is unfair to force the smell upon others who may not enjoy it, something i wish ciggerete smokers would consider more.

Also it would help if you mentioned in your post wether you reside in the uk or not.

hi,

I live in central London as well

i am 25 years old and i smoke since im 15 years old, it is true that england keep changing the law regarding any product related to cannabis.

the biggest problem i think here is that they ranked cannabis same as ecstasy cocaine and other hard drug.....

i think we need to show governement that they need to make the difference between hard drugs and cannabis.

and stop showing in media that cannabis is runned by street gang and it help the big criminal and stuff, they really make me laugh sometime, and u see poeple behind their television believing in all that.

however, i love cannabis and i am ready to help.

I've been keeping an eye out quite a bit over the past couple of years and recently there does seem to be quite a bit of activity on the campaigning side of things, new groups starting over here (NORMLUK, CLEAR, LEAPUK to name but a few).
I know CLEAR seem to be trying to do a good job at commenting on blogs/newspapers etc at the mo, trying to punt some good facts out there, have you looked into any of them? Or are they some of the other places you've asked on? Or if come up with a good idea, sure some of them might be up for a joint event

The latest report from the UKDPC has lots of really useful facts here, one of the best reports I've seen, I think it does a pretty good job of laying down the facts and seems to come to the more sensible conclusion that prohibition is a losing game and criminalising drug users is a pretty stupid idea:

UKDPC Publications
A Fresh Approach to Drugs: the final report of the UK Drug Policy Commission
http://www.ukdpc.org.uk/publication/a-fresh-approach/

Direct link to the report:

NB: At the moment I'm living just outside of London, got a load more links to groups and resources if it'd be helpful...

Yeah i follow clear and norml intently and i feel clear are more focused on working the political side, im just looking to form a couple of groups to reach the older members of the public whos information comes predominantly from the tv and newspapers, which means they are of the opinion cannabis causes scizophrinia and its users are all involved in organised crime. And i think the way to reach theese people is to talk to them face to face in a respectful way showing the facts, benefits of cannabis, and damages of prohibition. And after seeing the public opinion on cannabis rapidly change in colorado and washington after a long struggle using many tactics including vigourous and co ordinated street campaigning i think we gotta start here.

Hi I've smoked since the 60's in my Hippy Days although gave it a rest when the Kids were Young till they reached 17 then they were telling me about it. I'm now 64 and enjoy my Weed BUT I don't class myself as a Criminal. I would love for our UK Government to get their Heads out of the sand and into the real world.
I will monitor this page as it is about time the Gov. got the truth on how many people in the UK smoke Weed. I've talked to local MP's and their Parties about getting it legalised and they agree with me, then go in the Big House and disagree with me. We need to do something BIG but what I don't know. Tax is one thing, Monitored Shops is number 2 and limit the age to 21 and over. Now I know a lot on this site may be Younger than that but that is part of the problem, they are not looking at us, they are looking at the Youth and how they have abused things like Alcohol so how can they be trusted with this. That is the problem and I don't see how they can overcome it. Yes I would feel safer in my Hometown at night if the Youth had been smoking instead of drinking but that won't happen in my lifetime.
I feel safe Walking round Amsterdam anytime Day or Night but will not go anywhere in this Country at Night as it is not safe, Governments fault.
Legalize it and give Freedom to the World
