!Hola... :)
At 6:15am Saturday morning, -2c. with fresh snow, I met up with Stints at Stuttgart Airport and we proceeded on our journey.
No problems with taking off, but when approaching Lyon, we flew around the airport for 20 minutes before landing. No explanation was given... :(
According to the itinerary, we had a 30 minute layover, but with this delay, no layover and we might miss the connecting flight. We exited the aircraft at Gate 23A, walked the length to the satellite terminal to the last gate (23M) and were directed to board immediately. Less than 15 minutes later we were airborne and heading to Barcelona, whew. :)
Approaching Barcelona, I noticed the cloud coverage was nearly 100%, which could mean the weather forecast might be correct - RAIN the entire weekend. Just as we were landing, I noticed the roads were wet, damn. :( No worries though, we just missed 99% of precipitation for the weekend. 8) :D
We arrived at Terminal 1, transferred by shuttle bus to Terminal 2, and proceeded to the train platform. We purchased our 1 day mass transit card, good for all modes of public transportation within Barcelona city limits (Zone 1). The cost was 7.25 EUR, not bad considering it included airport transfer. However, if one wants to avoid an overcrowded train with smelly people  an option is taking the bus for 5.25 EUR, the caveat is having to purchase a separate Metro card.
We arrived at Barcelona Sants, the main train station, and walked about 10-15 minutes to Plaza Espana where we boarded the L8 Metro. From the Alemda metro stop, it is maybe a 10 minute stroll to the Expo Center, nice. As we approached the Expo, we saw the line, oh damn. My best guesstimate is that there were several hundred people in line, and this was nearly an hour AFTER the doors had opened. As we rounded the first corner of the expo building, we noticed many people leaving with boxes of Advanced Nutrients Bid Bud. What we didn't know at the time was that a feeding frenzy had just occurred, someone decided to feed the stoners.
I didn't know about what had happened inside until I saw the video posted by Vinyl. When I looked closely, the assholes were male between the ages of 18-22. Figures...
Eventually we rounded the corner into the main plaza of the Expo center and took note of the various food tents. Burgers, frankfurters, pizza, fries, and more, plus BEER.
Throughout the time we were in line, hostesses would hand out adverts in leaflet form. My only opinion - what a waste since it seemed to me most of these adverts were tossed on the ground. Stints had a good idea, put all of these adverts in the plastic bags they were handing out. Great idea, makes sense...
As we neared the entrance, a hostess was walking the line handing out seeds. Cool, my first "real" freebie. :)
After approximately 25 minutes of standing in line, we were finally in. The first thing I noticed was the crowd, way to many people. If there was a fire, there would have been serious problems. Any doubters, look at the video of the feeding frenzy, this says it all.
As we made our way around the Expo, I noted that this was basically the same as last year - most of the same vendors hawking the same wares. I was slightly disappointed because a reason for me attending the Expo was to see the latest and greatest for the farmer. This leads me to the reason that I didn't take any pics inside of the Expo - all one has to do is look at last years photos, no shit. After walking around for about 25 minutes, we decided to go outside and wait for Vinyl to make contact.
We were standing at one of the stone blocks, passing the time by smoking some weed and hash. I noted that at 1pm, I was the only person in the area wearing a blue baseball cap, and definitely the only one with RED SOX BASEBALL embossed in white lettering with crossed bats. Hey Vinyl, I don't know why you were looking for a RED LETTER B... I stated clearly in the PM, Red Sox Baseball, whatever, it's all good.
I joked with Stints that Vinyl probably had seen us and decided not to meet up. I may be WAY out of line, but when I stand in the middle of the quad easily 2-3 inches taller than anyone around me except Stints, with a blue baseball cap on, for almost 30 minutes - I call bullshit. That being said, moving on................
As noted by Stints, we chatted with a dude who flipped us a 2-3 gram bag of bud, SWEEEEET! Thanks again mysterious dude... :) We returned to the expo, still very crowded but still managing to move around. I met Mila, the owner of http://www.ice-o-lator.nl/ and asked to purchase a 90 micron bag. Unfortunately the only available were part of a set, but she was willing to break it, but near the end of the day. I thought that was really nice of her, excellent business etiquette as well. Unfortunately I was overcome by stoner events and wasn't able to return, hoping that if she remembered the encounter that she wouldn't be annoyed that it may seem like I had blown her off. It's all good, because of her friendliness and willing to break a set just for me, I defo will be bringing her my business.
Sometime after 3pm there was another feeding frenzy, but this time the staff was on the upper floor tossing stuff into the crowd. Again, a sad spectacle of young stoners. We managed to avoid the stampede and got the fook out of there. We went back outside for some drinks and munchies. I opted for a coke and fries (under cooked) instead of something more healthy and filling, not to mention possibly a little cheaper. The cost for a large portion of fries and two cans of coke, 10 EUR. Talk about fleecing... :(
I returned to where Stints had been chilling out and noted the two dudes he was conversing with. After exchanging pleasantries, I learned that they are Canna Nutrient sales reps from Texas. We chatted with them for a short while as they were on a munch break. They imparted some words of wisdom for various growing techniques, which was on my list of things I wanted to do while attending the Expo. 8)
End of Part I.
More to follow, including a few pics...

Was looking for a guy with a red sox cap on that video. You've had that hat for a while. Sounds like it is a bring your own refreshments kind of deal and watch out for the mosh pit!

Looking forward to part 2....

Damn, developing digital pics is a pain, who'da thunk? ................
Nearly 2 gigs of pics to look through, unfortunately(?) not many of Spannabis, no inside shots...
As previously stated, if one wants to know what it looked like on the inside, have a look at last years Spannabis pics, nearly the same stuff.
I forgot to mention that the temperatures were a low of a bout 10c/50F Saturday night and a high of 16c/60F during a brief sunny spell on Sunday.
Ok, back to the photo lab...

We were outside, about 150 people away from the entrance.
Stints and I observed the second feeding frenzy from about 5 meters away, needless to say - we got the fook outta there.
Some were filming that as well, so we might be in one of those videos. We would be in the back on the right side of the mob.
In my opinion, they should never do that again. The organizers are extremely fortunate that no one was injured during either mob scene. Food for thought...
More to come...

Thanks for going :) and letting us know what it was all about . Shame about the stampede, thats what happens when it gets mainstream.

Just another sales convention (yawn), but I daresay the reps whooped it up and had a good time for the duration, you know how these things go. They're for the industry to network, the punters bring in a bit of business , and pay for the gig at the door.

It's nice to do face to face but I think thats old school now.

Looking forward to the read though Ron.

  Counter culture once you know, rebellion, all that stuff :P :P Bah humbug Mr Crachit

Hmmm...

Brief periods of 60 degree sun :|
A re-run of last year's offerings :(

Kinda glad I stayed home in the cold and snow.
