Greetings ACD friends:
I was driving through my neighborhood less than an hour ago in my neighborhood. In front of Carla's favorite bar was a chalkboard which said "RIP Carla".
I dashed in and the bartender told me. It turned out her service is this evening. The funeral home is in the neighborhood so I stopped in, since the viewing is this afternoon.
I spoke with DH, he says he is "holding up" with a great deal of support. I only had a few minutes but I did see an amazing wall of photos. Also, a TV was playing a slide show with a Bob Marley soundtrack, and of course there were plenty of Amsterdam photos.
I saw her, and I can report she looks beautiful and has a wonderful smile.
I will call DH in a week or so. Needless to say I am shocked, saddened, but not that surprised. Her cancer took an ugly turn for the worse, and an infection which no antibiotic could curb was also in play.
Yes, this 420 should be special.
Best regards to all,
Lafe

I never had the pleasure of meeting Carla, but I can tell by all the love and heartfelt sorrow in this thread she was a very sweet lady. Cancer is a very ugly disease and kills lots of good people. I just watched a very good documentary yesterday called "Forks Over Knives". It goes into how important our diets and food we eat are to protecting us from cancer and other diseases. Some very shocking and eye opening statistics about cancer rates in countries before and after the western diet of meat and dairy protein were introduced into their cultures are also covered along with the importance of juicing and a raw whole food vegan diet. You can find it on Netflix if you have an account there. I encourage you to watch it and share the life giving and life saving information with friends and loved ones. RIP Carla

wish we could have met
missed that by a year
you're off now to another place
to sample different gear
your journey now continues on
no longer can we smoke
until sometime later, down the road
after all our bodies 'broke
four-twenty angel will watch down
and keep the peace, for sure
you left too soon, that's all I'll say
your time on earth a blur
rest in peace, Carla

Another stoner goes to join the great cosmic force that bonds us all.
It is a journey we will all take one day.
The cosmos just got a bit better.
Be at peace cattales1960

Lafe, were you taking notes? I was so fucking amazed and pleased to see you there.
Carla/Cat passed early last Sunday. We were told four months ago that her cancer was back, treatable but not cureable, so try to just live your life. Typical Cat is that four days after she had a seven hour surgery for a brain tumor, we left in an RV for the All Good Music Festival in Ohio. It wasn't a real easy weekend for her, but she danced again with Michael Franti, from a longer distance this time.
It wasn't the cancer itself but all of the complications that brought her down. It was rough. Many of the doctors that were treating her were ones that I consult with on a daily basis. Well, this patient is my WIFE and I will argue with you. But, well, she's Carla, had to be a hard case and stopped being treatable.
Her funeral yesterday was, uh, well attended. Sunday will be a parade through the streets of Soulard (a St. Louis neighborhood that we called home, though we only drank there) in the New Orleans style. We will celebrate her life.

By the way, we did play "Ripple" at the service. I know she would have wanted it, because she said many many times, "If I die, play 'Ripple'." This wasn't a dying request.

I only knew Carla from her posts here, but this is sad news. Condolences to all who knew her.
Has anyone got a link to the post at Channels? I can't find it, and I don't think they like me there.
