Can't answer for you in the UK, but for us from the states the cheapest exchange with the least charges is you debit card at a bank machine.

I got offered a good rate for my sterling on Damrak last year, then the tender tells me "but we are closed" Pmsl, proper funny. Tbh though change before you go as its a ball ache when every place is shut and Ye bank cancel your card for unusual transactions. Lmao

My bank in US changes very little to exchange, so I do it before
( it is nice to not have to think about it or waste time in the dam changing money)

keep in mind if you exchange money in europe youll be charged min 3.95 euro then + 5-10% + the exchange rate now 1.34 < yesterday in USA!! you best bet is doing like a lot of people buy cheap (like I at 1.23 in early sept) < see im saving .09 right now
with exchange at 3% < where i got my money+1.95 service charge
= me saved a lot ..shopping around town also never buy at airport once got 10pond =29.90$CND in 2001 didnt spend a cent of it and re sold it for 20$ more or less
or the time i tried to exchange 10$ at shithole <amsterdam airport! the lady told me well it only going to give you 2.95 euros

Both of those are bad ideas. Shitty exchange ratesJonnybol wrote:Just wondering what every body dose I normaly change mine at the bank before I sett off from the uk but some one told me you get a better exchange rate abroad is this true??
Best way to do it is to buy online. Go to Travelex.co.uk buy the amount you want and choose to collect it from the airport on the day you leave. You get a MUCH better exchange rate that way.
Or go Thomascookmoney.com buy the amount you want online and then collect from your local Thomas Cook store. Again you'll get a MUCH better exchange rate than if you just walked into a shop or bank to buy.
