Well there is Cafe de kilos, Great ribs steak lamb shoulder, the market next to nor remarks has great pea soup on Saturdays and ham sandwich or sausage, for Mexican tomatillo on the Overtoom is great.
For a real Dutch google the pancake boat it's 15 euro and IMO worth the money ( they also do a Mexican wrap night 22 euro I think)' there is alway walk to wok and burger bar, the brood bar is great for breakfast and lunch, even G house has a good menu ( sort of pricey)
The list can go o. And on.
It all depends on how much you want to spend and what you want to eat,
Peace matty

The portions of ribs are enough to feed the entire Flintstones Family - Fred, Wilma, Pebbles, Dino, and Baby Puss.
Something for you and the masses to peruse at your leisure...

Eating out can get expensive in town.
I prefer having an apartment where most meals can be prepared.
Quick bites can be had at Van Dobben, near Rembrandtplein.

Ate at Klos with my wife last week after watching her play in a concert at the Keizersgracht church.. Had the lamb shoulder for the first time. The most lamb I've ever eaten at one sitting.
Edit: Too stoned - I meant to mention Bazar on Albertcuypstraat http://bazaramsterdam.nl/
Cheap and filling. Great decor.

I second that totally, cheap (by AMS standards) variety (Woks, foccacias, pizzas, pastas, sandwiches, fries, steaks, extremly fresh fish, dozens of salads, soups, smoothies...) freshness (most of the items are locally produced) and a very central location.Comfy seats and nice views over the Rokin and Kalverstraat. It's my f*ckin cantina when I'm in the Dam.Gets real crowded on lunch hours with mostly locals, ranging from college girls gangs to respectableLa place eatery (Kalverstraat 203), you'll find there every kind of food at a bargain price. take away or you can sit there too
there are loooads of tourist traps/crap food in Amsterdam, better be warned.

I'll recommend the Old Quarter for their dutch dishes
Pea Soup , Hutspot & Boerenkool are all delicious , had a big meatball with the latter 2
