Origins of the Wake and Bake

Post by Stanky Danky »

I know it's probably impossible to pin point the moment in time when the stoner term "wake and bake" originated, but I think it would be interesting to find out how far back everyone on the forum started using the term and maybe share a story or three about how your circle of friends started embracing the tradition. I don't claim to be the originator of the term, but I know I was the one who originated the term within my circle of friends. I remember waking up one morning in the summer of 96, my friend Tim had slept over and we were both laying on my bedroom floor. For some strange reason I was thinking about Shake and Bake Chicken, which led to me thinking about getting baked. My mind then rhymed wake with bake, and I blurted out "wake and bake". My friend Tim thought this new term was really funny and started laughing as he replied "yeah, good idea." That was the beginning of a tradition that we carried out through our high school years and eventually carried on into our adult lives. That's my story of how I started using the term. So I'm curious, when did you all start to engage in the ritual that is the wake and bake? Please, do share. :)

The origins of the wake and bake is as mysterious as that of 4:20, however...
...the first wake and bake probably happened somewhere in Nepal/Kush, equatorial Africa, or equatorial Amazon.
Actually, it first happened when God woke on Sunday morning, realized what He had done the previous six days, and lit a fatty.

Taking the piss, one stoner at a time...

I seem to remember using the term during my university days in the early nineties. These days I have 2-3 bong hits most mornings at 8am just before heading to work. Makes the first part of the day far more enjoyable and it's when I'm at my most productive. After lunch I get a lot less work done and it's usually worn off by then. Tend to stick to sativas at that time but sometimes mix with bubble hash for the final bowl.

Somebody i know used to put a pipe in peoples mouths when they were asleep then hold the person's nose and light the pipe as they first breathed in. More like Wake up Baked. Down under we call them breaky bongs or breaky cones.

I remember hearing it in 1981. Also we called it the 'breakfast of champions'.

I have heard the term since I started smoking in the late 90's. I never was fond of doing this though because I am a firm believer in moderation and ,wake and bake, is counterintuitive to that philosophy.

Note: This does not apply on vacation.

Do not. Repeat do not, have a pure Durban Poison doobie for a wake and bake. Marching along the canals through snow and slush for a couple of hours is harmful to the constitution. Saying that, a nice bit of Kandy Kush in Paradox settles you down a bit
