Hey all,
Counldnt find a thread for my situation but can anyone recommend a list of hostels that are good for go it aloners like me to meet new people? I have been to the dam many times and I am just passing through again on the way home to the mother land of Ireland. I am in my early 20s if that helps. Visiting from the 13th of Dec to Mon 17th of Dec. Cant waait, its been a YEAR sinec I last smoked! Busy busy..
Anyways, some advice on hostels/even hotels on meeting new people... amm I might also just sneak this question under the rug, but where would be a good place to head out ALONE sat night for a good ol chat with some friendly strangers.. I aint shy but I dont like places you cant talk because of loud music.

stayed there many times...loved it
always met many tokers and smoked so much weed and hash in the huge lobby that still have a hard time believing that it was all true...lol
the place used to be a coffeeshop many years ago
lots of coffeeshops around, including Voyagers, which is a 5 minute walk from there
it is also quite cheap, something like 18EUR per night
stayed there many times...loved it

Edit: Looks great. Ill wait till tonight to see if any more replies from here and then Ill probs shoot the donkey and reserve. Caant waaait.. going to get recked beyond belief since my tolerance is zero!! Yeaaah!!!

Flying pig comes to mind for hostels, They have three properties, Centrum, Uptown, and Noordwijk - Beach.
Put in a little time at Voyagers, Utopia, and 1e Hulp and you will probably run into some ACDers.

The owner's name is Raja...he is a really cool dude, around 60 y.o. and used to own a few coffeeshops in the past. One of them was in the lobby of this hostel.
Ask him to show you how to make a hash cocktail in a glass.
He showed this to us with some awesome Turkish hash and we got really wasted on it.
Damn, remembering those times makes me happy that I'll be there in April to celebrate 4/20!

This is an assumption but I'm assuming with a name Raja he is from the sub continent(India) or there abouts, was the hash cocktail made with milk?? ie was he making 'BHANG' or 'BHANG LASSI'

The cocktail was made by putting turkish hash on the end of a match that was pushed through a cigarette, and lowered into a glass with a special hour-glass form, and then covered by a think round paper. The smoke filled the glass, and when it started coming out the sides of the paper, you simply inhaled it using a plastic-straw.
There were around 5 of us doing this, and by the time we finished we were all blasted.
Since this was occuring in the lobby around 19:00 of this hostel and there were clients coming and going, it was really a lot of fun to experience this whole process.
I lived in this hostel for three months, and we got blasted in the lobby on a regular basis, but the hash cocktail trick Raja only showed us one time, because he had this turkish hash he was about to send off to a girl in America that visited his hostel a few years ago, and another girl that was staying in the hostel at this time caught his eye.
So, he decided to impress her by breaking out the hash and getting all of us wasted along with this chick.
This was the 2009 Cannabis Cup Time and so we had a bunch of other folks staying there, and we smoked all day and night in the lobby and obviously went coffee-shop crawling every day.
I wanted to stay in Amsterdam and looked for work, but didn't find anything that interested me, and at the end of the year, around December 25th, 2009 - I took a bus and went back to my Eastern European country, and haven't been back ever since.
There were around 5 of us doing this, and by the time we finished we were all blasted.

and i think he son took over and just sold the place few months ago!! Raza last i heard is in spain now living la viva loca! check the Aroza FB page just last month few 100's were friends now it's like someone deleted everyone and restarted!! Whatev the place is a rat hole 
but cheap one that room at the top floor in front is the Hart attack room Raza loved to put people up there if he loved ya he put ya in the other room :O and i thing was last year or year b4 they changed the beds..aint the same and the same smoke rooom they made (omg) so much smoke in there that after 1minute you fell sick
