Megabus Information

Post by Miser »

Hi, I'm planning on using the Megabus service for a return trip from London to Amsterdam, can anyone who has used this service before tell me about what security is like (dogs, scanners, searches etc.), if it uses the Eurotunnel or ferry? And when at the Zuiderzeeweg stop, how I get to the general main city area?

Also I want to bring my grinder to collect kief, would I have to clean this out?

High chance of getting busted by cops/customs, France is known hotspot for pulls.

Post it back is the best advice

Take the good advice and travel back clean. Megabus will be targeted and routinely searched. Buses are captive audiences. Leave your grinder at home and buy one there, before you go back donate it to a new arrival. Zuiderzeeweg is on the tram route 26 direct to the Centraal Station. Look at the posting weed back thread for information. Megabus/Eurolines really are the riskiest methods of travel for bringing weed back.

Took Megabus only once, from the Dam. It's less pleasant going to the Park & Ride in the middle of nowhere to catch it than Amstel Station, but otherwise it was pretty much the same as Eurolines. The driver enjoyed cracking jokes about how we were going to get pulled and tough luck if you were stranded at Dover, but we weren't.

I'm a bit puzzled by everyone saying that coaches are the most likely way to get caught. I'd never try to take anything on a plane because everyone gets checked to some extent, don't they, with everything going through the X-ray machines and personal searches? I've taken the coach loads of times, and I've never seen anyone singled out for a body search, and only seen dogs once – on the British side. YMMV.

Exactly, i've seen people on the forums have trouble with the Eurolines service because it used the Eurotunnel, but the Megabus service uses the ferry and i was wondering if there was less security on the ferry

I have used Mega bus. Coach didn't get searched at all. Had a couple of grams on it and a grinder and a half smoked spliff. All accidently bar the grinder. I found the other stuff when I arrived back home which was a nice treat. Dont think I have it in me to take it knowingly but luckily it was fine.

Id just post it mate, Im sure you'd be fine but it isn't worth the hassle.

Eurolines uses the ferry also.

I always get the coach back (for obvious reasons), have done about 6 times now and only been searched once, right after passport control at Calais. Some french policeman just looked on top od random peoples hand luggage, nothing else.
Again as many people say just because other people have had no problems doesnt mean you will.
Personally never got the megabus, i used to use the service all the time when i was at uni and just the trip to manchester from london was bad enough, let alone a 12 hour trip. Would rather spend a small amount more for eurolines which is a bit more comfy and more leg room.

the beauty of eurolines is that for an extra 15 quid they let you travel return to London from anywhere in the UK to connect with your Amsterdam coach. guaranteed its always pulled both on the French end and UK side, just post it

But it's not guaranteed at all. I've done any number of trips by coach. Once when going over they searched the coach with dogs on the English side. Coming back, sometimes you have to take all your luggage off on the French side, and once they did that on the English side as well, but I've never seen anyone pulled for a personal search.

Not saying it doesn't happen, but it has to be safer than airports, where everything gets searched. Obviously posting is even safer, but it depends on whether you want to go through the agonies of waiting and possibly being disappointed, with a possible letter from Customs (even to a non-existent person, assuming you've been sensible and used a false name) maybe giving you a feeling that They Are Watching You. Horses for courses.
