Not sure if this article has been posted in the past but i'll stick it here and have a whinge...

How can facts be a disposable factor in this debate? ...I honestly expect this assault on the CS's is going to result in the exact opposite effect they are hoping for.

Oh well... Calmer heads and all that... Maybe... :(

...Maybe Amsterdam will again be allowed to work out it's own policy on the situation.

...Not as hopeful this time!

In a perfect world it would be illegal for a coffeeshop to be more than 250m from a pizza shop.

I'm confused, whos trolling ?
ps - Who is the resident smartarse?
Well I am one myself.

I was on this occassion refering to Uncle Ron who can sometimes come across as quite hectoring and pedantic when it aint neccassary and if new members dont know him, well they dont always know how to take him. 8)
Perhaps that was an early morning (for me) turn of phrase that was unkind.

UR my accomodation this 420 is actually floating on the Lijnbangracht so if you are inhabiting H1 you might be able to throw beercans or preferably oilyballs at me.

Note to self:- have breakfast and wake up before logging on.
What a long strange trip it is.

Yes. I'm afraid that joint didn't help the coherence levels of that post. I'm sorry.

I was  reefering  to gronin and his contributions to this thread.

Sure is a lot of great shops on that list along with a few that "should" go, for moral and social reasons

I wonder what the exceptional circumstances are regarding a location change and which business's would be allowed to move.

ps, does this make St Andrew the patron saint of Amsterdam Stoners. When i was told about it being the St Andrews cross, i told them aye right until Google said otherwise. Next trip i went back, said sorry and have been friends with the owner ever since, That is why there is a Saltire above the counter in Ibiza

Not sure if this has been discussed, but apparently the type of school that is considered for this list is not what you may think. Elementary schools (so kindergarten to sixth grade) don't count, and for this reason Chapiteau is not on the list. They are concentrating on schools with kids 12 and up.

Amsterdam’s coat of arms seems rather friendly – with three crosses in a row it resembles a line of kisses. The XXX symbol are actually St. Andrew’s Crosses. St. Andrew was a fisherman who was apparently crucified on an X-shaped cross in the 1st century AD. The Amsterdam coat of arms consists of three St. Andrew’s Crosses in white on a black stripe on a red background. The city’s symbol dates back to 1505 when the city was a fisherman’s town and all ships registered in Amsterdam flew this flag.

So they are targeting the possible next users from exposure to cannabis...I really dont have a problem with this.

That is to say, freedom of choice matters, but all good things at a proper age.

So why aren't they closing all pubs in the same areas as well?

Economic Laws would dictate that its not us stoners who will find this policy unwelcome, as someone mentioned before the Leidesplien will have no coffeeshops, many businesses in and around the Leidesplien count the coffeeshops as essential to their business Pubs Clubs etc--could be the only coffeeshops down that way that will be available are Easy Times and the Dolphins, Gawd help us.

Well that counts me out from ever booking any accomodation down the Leidesplien again---see my point.

The real question is whether the authorities will issue replacement licences to those ev icted from their present locations-- if this is the case then a new demographic will become apparent, all the stag nights and tourist areas will be redrawn to take count of the new areas of debachery, previously unexception coffeeshops will have a chance by upping their game to make a lot more money, some will suceed, some will fail--life will go on unless Holland really truly wants to get rid of their cannabis tolerance

Then by economic law somewhere else somewhere will introduce a cannabis culture for tourists of their own--and instead of us all logging into the Amsterdam Coffeeshop Directory--It might be the Prague Coffeeshop Directory etc etc--life goes on.

Nothing else to add to this thread.

I smoke. I'm a troll it seems.

Plenty of trip reports demonstrate that lots of people get up to all kinds of things in Amsterdam - it's a great city. We can agree on that point hopefully. (Waits for pedant to pick holes in this innocuous statement...)

See you on another thread.

Gronin I like your posts. They are knowledgeable and informative. You write well. You attend to the idea of not talking about this issue as non residents/nationals yet your contributions have stimulated debate and information exchange on this thread.

Many thanks.

Please continue.
I actually said I think it should be discussed here but we shouldn't tell the Dutch what to do. I offered a bit of fact-based opinion (important distinction) to add to that discussion but can't continue if it's seen as trolling. Makes the typing less worth it.

Like I said, see you on another thread.

Peace.
