That's why I'm not trying to grow monster buds for personal use. Heavily topped plants give me many smaller, more mold-resistant buds, and one less thing to worry about.

Thanks again eddie
+1...
Hmm, so if mites, pesticides, and mold are KNOWN common problems for growers using damp basements in Seattle (ahem.. or anywhere on Earth with the same issues), a thoughtful grower would take preventive measures, right? Hey you, wanna be grower, I'm talking to you.
So much grow information available, I still can't believe weak-assed trash weed like mids and regs are even sold anymore.
A quote taken from Uncle Ron's Book of Oily Philosophy, "Make twice the cash by turning trash into hash."
...
the people who grow it and sell it also smoke it, and they’ve got high tolerances and a deep fondness for its effects. They like it strong.....oh fuck yeah

UR, what preventive measures are you using? Might be good info to share. Love getting everyone's advice/experience- and then picking, choosing and tweaking for my unique environment, desires and goals. 'course, icmag is the better resource for that.

If one doesn't want too get blasted by strong weed, use a little less? AKA portion control (Weed Watchers) Strong bag of weed'll last longer than a weak one- and provide more high for the work/resources invested in creating it.
Personally I look for phenos with the tastes I like (fruity to fuel-y) then quantity of buds and then strength. For me I like to toke on a joint for a long time and enjoy the flavors but in the end I better have a good buzz. Like USBL stated, I been smoking steady for 20+ years and my tolerance is pretty high therefore it has to have pretty decent amount of THC in it for me to get a good high.
In Amsterdam I have to remind myself that I'm here for the flavors and atmosphere so I'm not disappointed because honestly there's rarely anything in AMS that's equal to my homegrown in strength. But I do love the flavors from the many different shops. Heck one of my faves in town is usually the Greyberry from Grey Area coffeshop, great taste to me but only mild in strength, its cheap buy 3 gs and makes to j's
meh... I didn't even bothered to read the second part. "modern" weed being stronger is BS, those who were blessed enough to come accross the real deal during the golden age will tell you that in those days were some real nasty buds. Coming to my mind is a story about some legendary purple durban poison loads making it to Australia, and which would make people hear and see things which were not there, eventually having them making it to emergency room for a shot of valium.
Strongest weed I've ever smoked was in 1990 or 1991, was from Zaïre (now DRC). Brown & dry, seeded, stemmy, would pass as schwag to unsuspecting smokers. Crazy smoke, once & only time ever I came to think I was going to die, ahah !
Durban poison doesn't have to be purple to send you onto some crazy rollercoaster ride, last time I smoked some in a'dam, it threw me into a 4-hours non stop walk through the town, impossible to stop, so much energy !
Malawi gold will send you into a 4-hours coke-like rush, good thai will make you forget where you are, and haze, haze is NOTHING of a new strain and remains a reference in potency.
The list goes on
And although it is true that there are more and more strains reaching the 20-25% thc, it doesn't mean that those with lower ratios are disappearing, plenty of seed banks offering strains with thc ratio below 15%.
