Good, Cheap Food?

Post by VP. »

Can anyone recommend some good places to eat at around the city center in Amsterdam? The past few times I've been there I've only seen the take-away/fast food places and expensive dining places. I'd like a place where I can go sit down and have a tasty meal for under 10 euro. I'm sure there have to be some more student-oriented or local places where people go for this sort of meal, but I haven't found any. Doesn't necessarily have to have table service, but I would like to be able to sit down and eat.

Wok to Walk rocks. You can get a fresh plate of steaming stir fry and a Dutch Budweiser for 8 Euro.

Next door to Grey Area is a small restaurant I really like: Foodism. Pop in and have a look at the menu when you go to Grey Area.

There are several around the city.

Lemming: should there be a section for eating and restaurants?

A map similar to the ACD map, with restaurants rather than coffee shops would be a very, very nice thing.

Ah yeah...I do enjoy Wok to Walk as well. The one on Warmoestraat is right near the hostel I stay at. Some of the top asian food I've had in Europe really...though there was this really good Mongolian buffet in Stockholm... :D

Yeah I'll definitely check out that place near Gray Area though, as I'm sure I'll be ripping the ROOR at GA multiple times during the week...thanks for the tip.

Ah yeah, I've seen the one on Rokin. Is that place actually good? The advertised one hour time limit always cracks me up when I walk by. I picture stoners camping out there for like 4 hours.

The food is ok but I go there for the dim sum mainly because they are very good.

my current favourites are maoz fallafel, load right up on that salad bar!!!!
and wok to go on damstrat, the 5 euro meals are quite hearty, and the spicy beef roll, crispy fish, and hot wings all 2.50 each a portion aint bad value either.
