I haven't read it all yet, but I really like your report. Sounds like you had a great time in Switzerland.

Also, I gotta tell you, the room we had at Voyagers was quite luxurious as compared to our usual room at the Greenhouse Effect Hotel. I will be offering up a "pros and cons" type of review comparing the Greenhouse Effect Hotel and Voyagers. So you have that to look forward to. hahaha!

Re: Here I Go Again: The Progress
A portion of the following report was recently posted as part of my reply in the thread about Hill Street Blues on Warmoesstraat. I wanted to re-post it here as part of my recaps and observations about my trip and the current state of affairs in Amsterdam.
My friends and I have been staying at the Greenhouse Effect Hotel on Warmoesstraat whenever we could book our rooms there. It all started back in the day when all the stoners from IRC would get together and actually make a trip to Europe. Over the years, we have become quite familiar with Warmoesstraat and it's been interesting to watch as the changes have taken place.
The new law banning tobacco smoking inside any building unless it's inside an enclosed smokers' area has definitely changed things in Amsterdam. Bars with enclosed smoking areas find those areas filled with patrons while the non-smoking areas remain practically empty. Of course you have to push your way past a couple of dozen people smoking cigarettes standing on the sidewalk in front of most any establishment just to get inside to order a drink.
The changes on Warmoesstraat have been pretty extensive since my first walk down the street back in 1998. The campaign to "clean-up" the Red Light District has made quite an impact. I have always considered Warmoesstraat to be the "entrance" to the RLD and now it's become a PG-rated, Family-Friendly, pedestrian mall where tourists can brush-up against the RLD without getting "dirty". I noticed that many of the more lurid sex clubs have disappeared along with the more "seedy" shops and hostels. Now, a lot of sleek new eateries and renovated hotels have filled those spaces.
The sex shops that remain seem to have filled their windows with the least offensive and most clinical displays possible. I noticed that the large and bawdy sign over Chickita's Sex Paradÿs was no longer there and the main window display was colorful and filled with a variety of sex toys. Regardless of the merchandise, it looked like a typical window display at any mall shop.
I'll have more reports and observations coming soon!

Leaving Amsterdam...
Saturday, 27 April, was my last full day in Amsterdam. I had planned to max out my available time to be away from my real life, and as a result of this, my flight back to the States was scheduled to leave Sunday morning at 10:50.
I was up early, around 7am. I got cleaned up and finished packing, leaving my paraphernalia with my Swiss associate which he later left with Els out in Almere where I will retrieve it next year, if everything goes according to plan.
I made my way over to Centraal Station and found the ticket kiosk that takes coins and got a ticket to Schiphol. I wanted to make sure I had plenty of time before my flight to enjoy a toke before going through security.
After arriving at Schiphol, I made my way to the departures hall and went outside and past the smoking area out to the open area at the end of the walkway, above the parking garage. I decided I would sit next to the rail and have a smoke. I usually save some herb and roll my own to take with me or smoke at the hotel before going to the airport, but this year I had neglected to do that so Saturday night, when I realized I needed to make another purchase, I opted to buy a pre-rolled pure weed joint at Voyagers. Now, I don't know what blend of weed was in that joint but I sat out there and smoked the whole thing all by myself and got high as a kite, as intended, but it was a bit harsh as a smoke, I was coughing like a tuberculosis patient. Needless to say, I got more than a couple of curious looks.
Getting properly baked helped to take some of the sting out of leaving. It's always sad for me because I love Netherlands so much. I am already looking forward to next year's trip and have started to make tentative plans.
I still have more reports and observations from my trip coming soon. I plan to discuss bongs, music, lodging and other things I observed from this year's trip.

Make the Most of It
Monday, April 15, 2013:
I got up early and traveled from Almere Haven to Amsterdam Centraal. I met up with gapie at Utopia at around 10am. We had some drinks and some smokes and soon we were joined by the Canadian Delegates for the Amsterdam Coffeeshop Directory. I spent a few minutes filling out a ballot for the Hestia awards and finally we were ready to head out to visit some other coffeeshops.
We eventually took a tram down to De Pijp where we dropped in on Club Media. This pleasant coffeeshop is located south of the Centrum near the Albert Cuyp Market. The excellent menu has a nice variety of product and the prices are very reasonable.
In this video you'll see some exterior shots of the coffeeshop, a look at the menu and some brief clips from inside the shop as we sit down to enjoy some Lemon Skunk.
The original music is performed by Kevin MacLeod and it is provided royalty free from http://www.incompetech.com/
