Media's selection of indicas on that menu made my mouth water. I'll take a gram of each please. :)

27 April 2013, Saturday:

During my last full day in Amsterdam, I made a trip down to Albert Cuypstraat with members of the Amsterdam Coffeeshop Directory. I had heard nothing but good things about De Graal for quite some time so I was happy to hop on a tram and make the trip.

Outside the shop, I pause and "gromit" from the ACD tells us why we have come to this particular coffeeshop. Inside at the dealer's booth, we get a look at the menu as gromit makes his purchase.

Once the transaction is completed, gromit invites us upstairs to the smoking lounge to enjoy the Super Cream Hash which is the star attraction on the hash menu. You'll get to see a few shots of the upstairs area as we sit down in comfortable seats.

Yes, it was well worth the tram ride! I just wish we had planned to spend a little more time in the area and we would have walked from one end to the other of Albert Cuyp Market while we were there.

Coffeeshop Chilli Kiki, Almere Haven, Netherlands:

Sunday, 14 April 2013:

After my ordeal with the international race for the plane, the flight delays and an afternoon in Amsterdam visiting some top notch coffeeshops, I opted to spend a day recovering by sleeping in at Els' Place in Almere Haven. Sunday turned out to be a beautiful day and I decided to walk over to the Chilli Kiki coffeeshop and pick up a gram of herb.

Walking from De Meenten to De Werven to the Chillie Kiki coffeeshop took only about 15 minutes. I got there a little early as they don't open until 2pm on Saturday and Sunday. When I arrived, I was quite surprised to find a carnival with American-themed rides and games in progress. I walked around and shot video of the carnival and some shots of the exterior of the shop as it seems to be a buy and fly type of place. I was impressed and amused to see that they have some educational literature available that explains the effects of cannabis, along with some tips on how to properly and responsibly enjoy cannabis products.

I bought a gram of Amnesia Haze for €12 and took it back to Els' Place where I smoked it in the garden while enjoying the warm sunshine and pleasant breeze. For me, it was a very nice Amnesia Haze, beautiful colors and perfectly cured. Possibly the best Amnesia Haze I have had up to that point.

The coffeeshop experience in Almere is quite different than in Amsterdam. The first thing you will notice before entering the coffeeshop is the security person stationed at the entrance. He will check your ID to make sure you are of legal age to enter a coffeeshop. I have experienced this at both Chilli Kiki and de Blowboot in Almere-stad.

Here is what to expect if you ever visit coffeeshop Chilli Kiki: The dealer's booth is only a few steps inside the entrance. You will place your order at a window where you are separated from the dealer by a glass partition with a speaker hole and a pass-through tray. You will be asked to show your ID once again and the dealer will make some notation on a slip of paper and then you can place your order. For easy viewing, the menu is posted against the glass inside the dealer's booth. Chilli Kiki sells pre-weighed bags. You do not have an opportunity to see and/or smell the product so you are really just trusting that you're getting what you're ordering. This, of course, is quite different than the experience at the finer shops in Amsterdam where the culture tends to cater more to the experienced smoker, the connoisseur, where seeing the product and smelling it before ordering is expected and encouraged.

There is no ACD page for this coffeeshop that I can find, but according to their website, they have a lounge area where customers can sit to relax and smoke as well as order drinks and snacks. I was not sure about this aspect of the shop when I was there since the door that opens into the lounge was closed and posted as Private and I did not ask if I could go inside. I would have liked to have spent a few minutes inside where I could shoot some video of the interior. Maybe I will be able to do that on my next visit.

This all-new production features original digital video shot with a Sony HDR TG1 Digital Video Camcorder.

The footage in this video presentation was shot on two different days on different visits to Coffeeshop Utopia.

24 April 2013, Wednesday:

It was a warm and sunny spring day in Amsterdam, absolutely beautiful weather for the day's events.

I was up early and walked over to Utopia and enjoyed a smoke and a drink out front in the morning sunshine. I shot some video out front while enjoying myself and watching the traffic, people and activities.

26 April 2013, Friday:

This was another beautiful day in Amsterdam with sunshine and warm temperature, it was a wonderful spring day by anyone's standards.

After having a go at the breakfast buffet at the Greenhouse Effect Hotel, I met my Dutch friend who was in town from the Nijmegen area and we walked over to Utopia. Along the way we met jwall and made arrangements to meet with him later at Voyagers. After arriving at Utopia, we were warmly greeted by Ingi and I ordered a gram of... something... and we sat and smoked a joint and met with Uncle Ron and Hillbilly.

Hillbilly was kind enough to record an ACD endorsement for the coffeeshop.

A Visit to the Iguana Park

It was another pleasant spring day in Amsterdam.

During my visit to Amsterdam in 2012, I walked past this small park with several life-sized bronze statues of lizards. I was intrigued but did not stop to enjoy the park and time slipped away from me and I never made it back. The memory of these whimsical bronze lizards stuck with me and I made a point of finding this park and shooting video there during my trip in 2013.

The Kleine-Gartmanplantsoen is a square and park in the center of Amsterdam. It is the connection between the Leidseplein and the Weteringschans. The Kleine-Gartmanplantsoen is primarily an entertainment place with a variety of cafes, restaurants, clubs and bars surrounding the square.

In and around the park lawn you'll find the statues of forty bronze lizards. This is the artwork of Blue Jan, 1994, from a design by Hans van Houwelingen .

The park is named after the Dutch actress Maria Kleine-Gartman (1818-1885).
