Steve that is my point. There are important UN treaties that the USA has entered into that would have to be re-negotiated and not "ignored" as you suggest often happens. Might you have an example of the USA ignoring an international treaty with regards to passing federal laws?

Hank--this has happened many times since 1776...numerous voting laws of the past, some firearm laws,, drones are a huge grey area....but if you just want one sample......the constitution overides international law....
Whitney v. Robertson..basically says treaties do not overide legislation.....the constitution overrides all treaties, and the constitution is legislation...

Does that make it right? No, but your writings seem to give impression that the constitution grants some magical powers that says we can do anything. That's just simply not true. It's an abuse of power because military technology is hard to keep up without the right fractional reserve lending....

I think I see where you went wrong in your thought process. You don't understand that a constitution is not legislation. The way it's working these days is wrong because people don't know the process. Things like patriot act (legislation) should not be trumping the constitution but its next to impossible to ratify it so they all go home rich an keep their mouths shut. They don't talk. Redeyz- your splitting hairs with the definition.....at its basic sense ...a constitution is a set of laws passed by elected representatives,,,legislation is a specific law passed by elected representatives...very thin difference

I really don't think I am. I see what you mean by they are both a set of laws. One is broader somewhat and the other can be specific somewhat. Specific laws have to be based on constitution.

For example. Trial by jury conflicts with indefinite incarsirstion. It shouldn't be happening. Period. There are much more examples I won't go into.

Personally I think there is wide spread misunderstanding of how constitution effects us daily. I blame the gov'ment (public) education most of us recieved Have no fear the Internet is here!
Next semester for elective I'm taking horticulture 101 then on to 201, and maybe even 301!! All in good time
