You see a nice bong you like for £97, but you're skint.
You borrow £50 off mum and £50 off dad.
This leaves you with £3 change, so you keep a quid and give a quid back to both your parents so you only owe them £49 each.
£49 + £49 = £98. Then add that quid that you took is £99, where's the other quid gone?
Mind fuck.

Also true, but irrelevant. You don't add £1, you subtract it. That makes £97, the cost of the bong. Of the £3 that's change from the £100, your father has £1, your mother has £1, and you have £1.

You sir are a genius, I knew it had something to do with the quid you kept but couldn't figure out what. None of my mates, or any one at work could figure it out!

Why not use the leftover 3 quid to pay both of them 1,50 back? I didn't really get the problem of this...

I'm tempted to post the Monty Hall problem. That tends to polarise people quite sharply. I've seen people nearly come to blows over it.
