Re: Grey Area
I've walked by the place many times on my visits and never got around to popping in. I'm not one for standing in a queue, but maybe next time I'll try some bud from this place. It seems that opinions are quite polarized about the place, many saying that they love it and others hating it.

Re: Grey Area
They have some good stuff but I often cant find a seat. I remember watching insominac with Dave Attell and he went in there. It was really awesome seeing the same budtender from the TV show in there. I asked if Dave really smoked that AK47 and he said that he didnt.
Re: Grey Area
This is always the first cs I visit in the dam. There is a palpable level of excitement and anticipation here which I don't quite get from any other cs (although the long lines obviously contribute to that). It's primarily a grab and go shop, but if a space does open up in one of the 2 or 3 small tables it's worth sitting for a little while. Unless you're in a large group you will probably share a table as well as some good conversation with people from all over the world who are as excited to be there as you are. Most of the time the tables are full and I just take my gear to nearby Amnesia and smoke it there. I don't really mind the long lines; I travel a long distance to get to Amsterdam and if I have to wait 15 minutes that's hardly a price to pay for some of the best herb on the planet. The last couple of times I walked in it was empty. Each time I walked to the counter, turned around, and there was a line behind me going out the door in a matter of seconds! No problem, it's totally worth it. In most of my favorite cs's there have been two or three strains which really stood out, however, in GA there have been so many exceptional strains over the years that I've probably forgotten some of the best smokes of my life. Another plus is that they always seem to get some of the latest strains from the top seed companies before other cs's do. Highlights (that I can remember) over the years include: Chiesel, Silver Bubble, Strawberry Diesel, L.A. Confidential, Martian Mean Green, Holy Grail Kush, L.A. Woman, Casey Jones, Quazar Haze, Chocolope many years ago, C13, NYCDiesel, the Grey Crystals/Kif, Amnesia Haze Ice-o-lator
, and Silver Bubble Ice-o-lator crystals
. Their Grey Haze is very good, also, and the Yellow Cab makes for a nice, mild wake 'n bake before hitting the city. Furthermore, their budtenders are arguably the best in the city. They will show you each tub of buds, explain the differences in effect and taste, and usually recommend something, including the lower priced strains. They take their time with you and it really is worth it. Oh, and because I always buy as much as they permit, they always throw in some extra goodies.
It's not cheap but it's definitely worth it! I consider it a pilgrimage.

Re: Grey Area
Paid a couple of visits this week to the Grey Area, once just after opening at mid-day and a second time just before they shut at 8. Had a look at a couple of weeds and ended up grabbing Ever Grey and Blue Cheese (I think). The Ever Grey was superb and I ended up going back for more. I think it`s a diesel crossed with smething else. Very spicey. It was very expensive though at 16 euro and I think over priced. There are lots of good 7-9 euro weeds in different CSs and I think 16 euro is too much to pay.
Coffeeshop is worth visiting though as they have a great selection of gear in here.
Just before closing on Tuesday, the American guy with glasses and a cap filled up a bong with freshly fallen snow from outside. He and a coupld of customers had a couple of hits with the snow squashed inside the bong tube. Was a cool sight to see!

Re: Grey Area
Went here on every trip I've done got the bb cheese which the 1 st time I had it was the strongest cheese I have encounted , like brutally strong. After taking this to old church and picking up some royal cream ( always buy at least 3 gram a trip) started to smoke this with a group of friends all to which agreed some mind blowing green. After a heavy day of blazing we then combine on a cone ( huge) 5 ways also a full gram of grey crystals went in this !! Which rocked my head and sent me back to the hotel room dazed .
The best cheese I have ever had no other even comes close to what I got that day

Re: Grey Area
Bought some grey haze here last week, was ok at best. Everything I looked at seemed like small nuggets, nothing jumping out at me as amazing. I've sampled a lot of stuff from this shop over the years and until I discovered voyagers I thought it was the best in dam. Now I don't get the hype around it. There are so many better places, and I think grey area has become fashionable. The same as kids wear nikes, smokers have to visit grey area
Re: Grey Area
I gotta disagree with you there...not that I'm doubting that you had an underwhelming experience or anything-I've had some pretty blah batches from otherwise quality shops at times. But I can tell you that GA delivers in a major way every time I've been there. My buddy and I plan on doing our best to "buy the menu" while we're there next month...(5 different grams each) THAT should be fun if nothing else!cprmission wrote:The same as kids wear nikes, smokers have to visit grey area

This is part of the Grey Area's mystique. It is like the the weed they sell there is somehow magical and can never be anything other than wonderful. I've had wonderful weed at Grey Area many times. Also had OK weed from there a few times. I think maybe once I had something I thought was poor tasting/ poorly cured. This is in 40 or so visits.
In the end is Grey Area not just another coffeeshop? Their weed is excellent but not invincible.
I have to hand it to the guys at Grey Area. The service is second to none. Fast, friendly and fun. It is like having a little taste of a really cool little 'scene.' Alas the lack of seats means a sad feeling in the pit of the stomach that means you are leaving the Grey Area when it would be so lovely to hang out in this cool place just a little bit more.

Re: Grey Area
A tip that works in most CSs but especially this one:
Ask the budtender for a recommendation, ideally based on what you know you like (if you don't know what you like, most of the weed in the Dam will be amazing to you most likely)
Everything looks cool on the menu, but they'll direct you to the best stuff
(unless you're a dick I suppose

Re: Grey Area
I've actually had real crap weed from grey area. Some grey berry I got there in September '11 was terrible. Looked good, smelt ok. Tasted like I was smoking the contents of an ashtray. Was a weak smoke as well. It was cheap but it put me off a bit.
I have been back and only ever had great bits of weed since. I think it must have just been a dud batch. That could happen to anyone I suppose but there must be some sort of quality control in place.
Lion above me is very right. Only ever had one bad recommendation. But that was from a pushy guy (not in grey area) who got annoyed because I wouldn't buy the 2.1g bud that he offered when I only wanted a gram. Plenty of smaller nugs in the box. The weed was nice but the hash he then offered was good looking and smelling henna or some shit. It was in amnesia if anyone's interested.
