Re: Plane tickets are too expensive!
Looking at spending nearly $1000pp for flights to AMS so I can't really say I feel for you. Just a few years ago it cost less than half that.
Why drink and drive when you can smoke and fly?

Too damn right brother. Checking on it, my regular flight took a sluggish 47 minutes this morning. They really need to get their act together.Nimrod wrote:

I'll take the 140!
How much did you produce?
Re: Plane tickets are too expensive!
you'd struggle to get a train from London to Glasgow for less than £140, and you're complaining about having to pay that for a flight?!?
Back on topic, when we started visiting the dam 13 years ago we could fly from Bournemouth airport for £34.99 return! Now you can only fly from Southampton for around £85-£95 return, still good value IMO.

Re: Plane tickets are too expensive!
Earlier this year in January I took the Megabus from London. It cost me £11 return, and I also stayed in a nice 3* hotel for 4 nights which cost me £53 total!
Also, a few years ago I got a ryanair flight to Eindhoven for £5!
In the off-peak months it can be amazingly cheap, but I agree right now it is expensive. I actually prefer the Dam in the cold winter months, when it feels like a ghost town at night. IMO that is when it has its most charm. Although what I would give to be in Vondelpark right now with a joint...

Re: Plane tickets are too expensive!
Yeah... I remember around 2002 when either Ryanair or Easyjet were doing return flights to the Dam for £9.99... I miss that.
The year after I think it was £19.99, then £29.99, etc... The last flight I booked was £55... Still, it's a bargain, but I can't help hark back to the glory days and hope they'll return one day!

Re: Plane tickets are too expensive!
It's not so much the flight itself that's expensive these days but the charges included in the cost. Such as the tax, card surcharge, airport charges etc. I know with Easyjet they include all this in the ticket cost these days. But I can still recall return flights from Liverpool for £35 several years ago. Now with all the increasing charges on top on the flight but included in the price I could get a return next March for £65. With inflation, increased fuel costs, increasing airport charges\goverment taxes etc the costs for me for the flight itself is on par with what it was several years ago all things considered. Where I able to get a return 16 hour each way coach trip for half that cost or less next year when I go I'd be very tempted as no shit over baggage size, stupid liquid or food regulations and able to take a few home comforts for ex pats living in Dam.
Re: Plane tickets are too expensive!
back in 2010 (april/june/oct) don't think I paid more than £60 return from Luton , without double checking I think this oct is £110/£120 return.
Although I do take the piss out of a few of you over the prices you pay (hi Trad , bigguy , matty
) it does make me thankful to live so close , shit we could easily do a wk in dam for what some of you have to fork out just on airfare
also why the fuck is this in TR's

Sending out the good vibes to those that need them right now
Re: Plane tickets are too expensive!
In fact in thinking I'm very likely to at least get the coach there next trip even if 16 hours. As being a tight bastard (well more thinking £20 (€26) wasted that's better spent on a couple of gram of quality green) and not willing to pay £20 for a taxi (don't drive and useless public transport at 5am in Liverpool) to catch the early flight so I can get to Dam for breakfast then the only option to get there for breakfast is the coach otherwise it's tea time arrival via the afternoon flight.
