For comparison - US or Canada to Holland is many times the distance of Aberdeen to Holland. My last flight from London to Amsterdam was £212 for 45 minutes in the air. That would equate to about £2250 (USD 3600 or CAN 3740) for JFK to AMS. And let's not even get into comparative earnings...

It's all relative...but to what?

Weird, I've flown from London to ams three times both ways, never paid more than $100 can for that portion...did bmi and it was super cheap.

Also, don't forget there's about 4-5 times as many people on a trans continental flight vs a london-ams puddle jumper...we are all paying the same airport taxes.

My $898 ticket is $199 in fare, $699 in taxes

BMI no longer fly from any London airport. Things change; fares go up.

CAD100 is about GBP60? - I think you'd struggle to find a flight for that price these days... unless you go to Luton which stretches the definition of a 'London' airport IMO.

Right now expedia.ca i can book british airways london gw $209 taxes incl roudtrip direct to amsterdam nov 26-dec 2. Thats 125£ roundtrip taxes in. Median household is nice, but i pay 5-8 times more in airfare, but my household income is defo not 5-8 greater

My $898 fare was a special price, usually goes for $1200-1700 cdn with/without connection.

I guess my original point was, and not to mean any disrespect, i think we are having a fun convo... My original point was your proximity is so much closer, thats awesome, then you add in the relative low price, and thats a double wammy. And i think thats great for everyone over on that side of the atlantic. Im a pothead and envious

If you heck Toronto/ NYC or Philly connection you'll find cheaper then 898 $ and Travelocity is better then expedia.ca ...return normal price with klm is about 1215$ if you shop around 3-4 months before you may get it at -/+ 815$ also a lot of cheap flights to Belgium and Paris for around 598/650 return with tax from Canada or NYC from Paris bus is like 70/80 euros return and takes same time then the bus ;) also from Canada to Frankfurt you may find cheap flights at around same prices the Paris and Brussels but these r mostly 2-3 week befor you leave flight or like I call them cou de tete flights ;)
