Help Out A New Guy Please - Lots of Questions.

Hi All.

This is a great site full of helpful info on Amsterdam - I was wondering if some of you knowledgeable folks could help me out?
I am heading to A'Dam for the 2nd time in September (2nd till 7th) and will be staying in Oud West region. My first visit was 2006 and was not that great TBH.....not enough time etc.

I am in my 40's and have not smoked regularly for around 10 years. I used to smoke a lot in my 20's but things have changed a whole heap since then. I am used to smoking NZ pot grown outdoors, what we call "Bush-Weed".....I have no idea what to expect from the pot in Amsterdam, but assume it will be much stronger than what I am used to, plus the fact that I am not a regular smoker anymore, I want to be careful and not ruin my time in A'Dam :)

So......I'm looking for some weed that is uplifting, energetic and cerebral.....I don't want that full body stone, stuck in the couch staring at the wall sort of stone (although, I do enjoy that from time to time, perhaps not while i'm being a tourist). I'd rather not sit in a cafe and smoke all day, but rather skin up in the morning, smoke up and then head out for a day of exploring......what would you recommend and can you recommend a coffee shop in the Oud West region that is reputable and well stocked? I just smoke joints, I wont have any bongs or pipes and am not interested in Hash for this trip.

On the flip side....if I am in the need of that full body stone, staring at the wall, end of the night, put yourself to sleep smoke - what would you recommend for that?

Sorry for all the questions and I hope I have posted this in the right section?
Thanks in advance for any help or suggestions offered.

Cheers.

Welcome on board!

I dig yr name...the worlds famous JackRabbitsslims Twist contest.. :D
plus the fact that I am not a regular smoker anymore, I want to be careful and not ruin my time in A'Dam
Wise decision, things can easily and quickly become a blur in the City of Dreams...Too much to smoke/try, too little time  !
and the weed is often very strong...I find tht after 2/3 spliffs, that cerebral, head high turns into a heavy eyed stone lol, motivation worns out, even with the best sativas (often refered to as 'smthing' haze)...

On the other hand, in 5 days, you'll be able to see loads of stuff and really start to feel the particular vibe in AMS.
My advice would be to take it easy in the daytime if you wanna enjoy, at least fr the 3 first days...
Don't make too much plans, of course.

Others here could advice you better than me as far as effects of diferent strains (bear in mind tht most people here are heavy smokers though lol...I'm not, I'm a proud lightweight  )
am not interested in Hash for this trip.
Now, that's a HUGE mistake IMO...Amsterdam is the world's capital of (imported) hash trade..Damn stock exchange place!!
Seriously, the variety of imported hash is unbeatable.read the recomendations in here, there is a new topic twice a week on that matter
During my last 3 trips (over 4 yrs roughly), the ratio of my purchases was 75% quality imported hash and the rest was carefully picked weed.

If you fancy an energetic, cerebral, dreamy high, most quality import stuff will surely do the trick, and the variety of flavours is awesome.Nothing beats that sun-saturated, 'terroir' touch...just my 2cts

Enjoy

Thanks for the great reply alpen rock!!

OK, I have loads of time and perhaps sampling some of the Hash could be a god idea?? I don't smoke Tobacco and combing hash with some weed to smoke in a joint could bowl me right over.....Baby steps could be the right approach.

I think I'm going to have a hard time splitting my time between being a dorky tourist and getting high :) combining the two could be a nightmare!

Thanks once again

So sounds like you are after Sativas mainly (Indica is the stuff that will stick you to your chair).
Alot of shops sell outdoor grown stuff so that would probably be right up your street. If you are feeling adventurous in terms of quality and strength look at some of the indoor grown strains, some of the Haze strains should be what you are after =)

As for shops, my geography is a bit terrible, but if you head east a little bit into Jordaan type area you will find some pretty awesome shops such as; Dampkring 2, Barneys (not what it used to be according to these forums), Grey Area (very busy with US tourists but I hear great stuff still), 1e Hulp, Paradox are some of them =)

you're welcome!
perhaps sampling some of the Hash could be a god idea??
Damn ryte!
I don't smoke Tobacco
Ok, then I can understand your 1st reluctance to smoke hash :) .
combing hash with some weed to smoke in a joint could bowl me right over
Sure that combo could put you down fr the count lol!keep sugary drinks or fruits nearby, put down the spliff when ya fancy...relight etc...yeah baby steps is definetly a good approach..
Plus I find that hash flavors don't combine/express well with weed (like if you mixed red wine with white wine..).But that's a personal thing, I have always been smoking with rolling tobacco, european style

There are many topics here as to how to smoke hash without baccy, different strokes fr different folks..
combining the two could be a nightmare!
It could, but Amsterdam is definitely the perfect place fr that.

@Padge247 - thanks for your comments...yeah, I think I'll be on the look out for some Sativa's (Haze Strains) after reading quite a bit on this forum it sounds like having a decent chat to the BudTenders is the way to go.
Obviously, I'm not a super weed connoisseur so I'm sure I'll be able to find some smoke that will tickle my fancy.
Some Indica might be a nice way to end off the night as well

@alpen rock - thanks once again. I'll keep the Hash option well and truly open.

Cheers.

Welcome to the forum.

You have been posted on the September Whos In Town page.

You can see who else may be in town during your stay.

If you don't see yourself, click your refresh or reload button
Your browser sometimes loads pages from your local cache and
you don't get the latest update.

Watch for Toke & Talks, I post them up to the last minute.

Set yourself up with your own T&T or Toke and Talk, where you pick the coffeeshop (your favorite)
and the date and time, I will post it and you wait for folks to show up, if they do you'll have a
T&T. If they don't you still get to enjoy your favorite coffeeshop!

By default I link your posting to your profile page here on ACD.

I can change it to a web link ( myspace, facebook, personal page )
or an email address if you want.

You can do a little practice shopping on the Coffeeshop Menus page.
Any with arrows are less than six months old.

Any nice new menu pictures you can get will be much appreciated.

Alpen is right - Lots of good hash out there to sample in Amsterdam.

I'd buy a small glass/metal/wood pipe from a head shop and some screens. Then I'd smoke the hash pure from the pipe. Allows smaller dosing!

OK - thanks for the advice

So, considering that i know very little about Hash, and I do know that I want to be smoking Sativa's rather than Indica's.....can I choose a certain type of Hash for the desired effect similar to smoking weed?

If so, which strains or names of Hash should I be looking for? - Or should i just chat with the BudTender?
Are there CS in A'Dam that specialize in Hash rather than Weed? - or do most cover both pretty well?

Thanks once agin for helping me put.....3 weeks to go and I'm getting quite excited already :)
