Public Transport cards?-Whats the best approach for 5 days?

Hi.

I'm arriving into Amsterdam from Dusseldorf on the Train. I want to use the Tram to get to my accommodation and around the city for the 5 days of my visit. My accommodation is in Oud West part of town.

Is it best to buy a Travel Card of some sort, or should I just buy a 1 trip card each time I use the Tram??

I suppose my question is this: - is it best for a Tourist to buy a specific travel card for the period of time i will be in A'Dam (5days) or just pay per trip?? Obviously, I'm looking for the cheapest options here . I don't think I need to buy the 7.50 reload-able card, as i wont be back in A'Dam in the next 5 years (Unfortunately).

I don't expect to use the Tram each day as I like to walk and will probably rent a bike.....maybe 4-5 tram trips over the 5 days?

If you are only planning a handful of trips, single tickets are best. If you plan on using the tram/bus/metro more than 3 times a day, the multi day passes make more sense. http://en.gvb.nl/ovinmamsterdam/Pages/bestdeal.aspx

Single trips on an OV-chipkaart work out cheapest if you do, say, half a dozen in a week. The card itself costs 7 euro, but it's valid for 5 years, I think, and it means a single trip generally costs 1 euro something rather than 2.80 euro for an hour. You can get one and load money on it at machines in the Metro, though if you don't feel up to that you can get one from a person at the main office across from the railway station, eventually.

Yeah, I don't think the 7.50 card and then loading more $$$ on it is the way to go for me....walking and bike riding will be more the go.

Getting to my accommodation with all my bags from the station and back again when I leave, plus a couple of rides when I'm too tired or twisted to walk / ride will be the use.

Can I buy the 1 way tickets on the Tram, or do I need to have one before getting on?? Are they just coin operated machines or do I need to use a ticket booth?
Dumb question:- but what do I ask for?? A "One Way Ticket" or a "One Hour Ticket"?? - they are 2.80 Euro per trip....is that right?

You can purchase a 1 hour ticket on the tram from the driver or conductor. And yes the tickets are 2,80.

Hello, we are going for 4days, me 26years My brother 23 and parents...
I saw i Can buy 4days travel card/pass for 21 euros, but Can i buy that on the airport?
And do it works with buss 197 from Schiphol to Leidsplein ?
