Trolling

Having previously called a troll but not seeing it myself, I thought I'd throw in my tuppence worth.

Some posts here are self-important, ignorant, nationalistic, illiterate and just plain dim-witted. I find it hard to ignore all of them and sometimes feel obliged to reply - usually in a sarcastic manner but with my genuine opinions and beliefs. This is apparently defined as trolling despite the lack of aggressive or bullying language.

I still disbelieve the view that weed related paranoia is from the drug not the smokers state of mind. I was firmly accused of trolling for that one. I also believe that if Amsterdamers and their elected municipality wish to close a small number of the many hundreds of CSs; that's their right and nothing will be gained by endless self-important debate by foreign drug tourists (in a frankly hysterical manner to boot). This is also trolling, I'm told.

There are some edifying and thoughtful posters here but not many IMO. Frankly, it's not a forum rife with considered opinion so trolling is inevitable?

I just watched 'Idiocracy' on television which reminded me very much of this forum. Hence the post. I really think that - is it trolling?

I've been accused of being a troll; when I was given an explanation of what a troll is, I was like ...however, I've since learned the following:
If given enough latitude, anyone who gives an opinion that evokes a negative emotion could, by definition (a stretch), be considered a troll. However...
...that would not be entirely correct. There has to be directed intent, as in referring to someone in a derogatory manner, ie calling them names or using other than pleasant adjectives to describe them... basically behaving like a bully.
There are several examples of when a member of ACD would shark me, basically coming out of nowhere to insult, disrespect, and in some cases, threaten.
If there is a disagreement with my opinion(s), ok, it's all good... HOWEVER, this has all too often been used as an excuse for calling people names, baiting, and as mentioned, in some cases making threats.

Trolling is only inevitable because people either can't or won't control themselves.... simple... too easy.
Trolls are cowards, always have been, always will be. It's a trolls life after all.

If any of my words offend, perhaps it's you (generalized statement for anyone) who has the problem, a bit thin skinned perhaps?
The main difference between me (as being accused of trolling) and someone who is actually trolling - I won't direct my opinions are any one "named" specific person or group.
Defend a troll, be labeled a troll... defend a bully, be labeled a bully... and yet some here on ACD will do just that... self inflicted, maybe closeted masochists...
I hope some here on ACD finally get it, some really need to...
Pause - what I just wrote may be considered inflammatory, but it's not trolling, why?
Because of intent, and that I didn't direct my comments at any one named specific person or a group that can be associated.
Ex... I think all left handed people are douches. Inflammatory, yes; trolling, yes, because I was calling out a specific group.
Ex... I think anyone supporting ant-gay rights is less than human. Inflammatory, yes; trolling, no, because being ant-gay is a choice...
...as opposed to being left handed, a natural occurrence or phenomena.

Many should learn how to properly express themselves without the need or desire to denigrate, demean, or demoralize.
Perhaps recent studies are accurate - there seems to be a significant increase in sociopaths (behavioral) in our society.
Trolling, internet bullying, cyber warrior, etc... are fine examples, not to mention the X-Box generation of war fighters, aka modern US Military.

The only way I'm going to think you are anything other than an out and out troller is if I discover you are an alter ego of another poster here. If it is the latter than obviously you are cowardly and pathetic. That is all.

You might be right. You might not see yourself as a troller. However your posts come off as being from someone who clearly sees himself as superior to the rest of this board.
So my question to you is if this is true then why even associate yourself or post on ACD?

You clearly think yourself too good for this place. Why don't you go inflict your opinions on another internet forum instead?

Treetop - I can assure you this is my sole username here. 'Gronin' is only an alter ego of my real name which I'd not use here along with everyone else.

I visit Amsterdam four to five times a year and avail myself of the quality hash most trips. I've just taken on a six month let as a treat for myself and my friends so will be visiting more frequently. Would that be sufficient involvement to post on the Amsterdam Coffeeshop Directory forum? I am aware of channels.nl but not Cannabis Army - the former has too little traffic to be interesting and the latter sounds a bit gung-ho but I should take a look on your hearty recommendation.

As for your assertions of 'superiority', I wouldn't say my opinions are any better than anyone else's here. I will concede my knee-jerk disgust of ignorance and downright illiterate posts.

My dislike of emoticons is probably a generational thing as I've also stated before. I was born in the 1960s so would feel ridiculous trying to force them into my posts. In my entrenched 20th century mind, I just feel communication with proper words and grammar (at which I don't excel) works much better. Whatever age you are - you also seem to prefer the word over a smiley so perhaps you will see my point of view.

This forum isn't going to change the world so I see no reason to be over earnest. I hope at least a few of my posts have provided some entertainment value - the replies certainly have to me.

I'd never consider telling someone not to post on what seems to be a pretty open forum. That would be outrageously superior.
