My de Pijp rental ran out so I'm back in London bemoaning pubs where I pay for weak beer one-at-a-time and have no table service. No CSs either of course. Shit. I might have to get a job again too - am Fourteen grand the poorer. Shit, 14000 Euros in six months - and all I have to show is red eyes and a bad cough. Lost a shitload of weight though... 48 with the body of a 40 year old.
A quick skim shows me the literacy levels here aren't improved but also see a lot less wailing and clutching of pearls about CS closures, 1800 opening times etc.
Am still obnoxious but cutely self-effacing. What's new, motherfuckers?
(Did I meet anyone in my near nightly slouchs in De Graal, Katsu or Flamingo? Would I remember?)
Show me some of that old-time hate - I'll love you for it.
What's Flamingo? The search facility on here tells me it's either a closed shop in the Hague, or something in a rather picturesque suburb of Utrecht with the charming if formidable name of Driebergen-Rijsenburg. Which all seems a tad far from de Pijp.

It's a cafe I visited (too) often due to its excellent selection of beers and is most certainly in de Pijp. Sorry to confuse by mentioning an establishment that isn't a CS on a CS forum. Will chastise myself thoroughly.

14 grand for 6 months, what hostel were you staying in? Fucking hell and heres me thinking you were some kind of Dude
Urgh... I never want to be any kind of 'dude'. I feel dirty at the mere suggestion. I'm a middle-aged git and don't you forget it!
The 14 grand was my own money spent on rent and everything else. The whole idea of the rental was for my mates to also use and pay on a per-night basis - which they did. Some months had more visitors than others but it worked out at around 30% of my overall rent.
Mixed feelings to be back in my own city; despite deliberately becoming a regular at certain establishments, I was never viewed as anything other than a long-term tourist. Probably more a reflection on myself - my Dutch was so bad, some locals came close to tearing off their own ears so consequently I didn't feel able to pursue job-hunting. So I guess I was just another tourist. With mid-life crisis.

You wouldn't have been alone in that I bet, seriously it sounds like you had a nice time. I hope you didn't spend too much time reflecting on the next chapter.

+1 some of the funniest wittiest post I have read on this forum. We should have met for a beer...... the long stay tourists.
They must find it difficult, those who have taken authority as truth, rather than truth as authority
