I'm a casual drinker, one that appreciates an occasional alcoholic beverage... beer, wine, and whiskey (no mixing of grapes and grain though)...

My calendar notified me of this important occasion, National Drink A Beer Day.

Orkney Brewery does some superb ales. Northern Lights

is a favourite.
Compare that to this miserable experience this afternoon. Following my football team away today. Pub outside station, warm real ale, plastic glass, flat, tasteless and stale. £4 a pint. Complained to the 'duty' manager and was told that it looked fine to him. Buggered off £4 poorer but a lot wiser. Stood outside for 20 minutes directing other away fans to anywhere else but here and watching the pub get quieter and quieter. In the end there was five bar staff stood doing bugger all and an almost empty pub.
A helpful police inspector showed us the way to a little Irish pub where we were royally entertained for a couple of hours before the landlord took us to the stadium in his car free of charge. It would be unfair of me to name the miserable pub as The Three Guineas, Reading. So I wont.
