There is a disturbing trend in Law Enforcement these days that shows how our Constitutional Rights are being eroded away even faster than a cynical bastard like myself ever dreamed possible. The following links will take you to a couple of articles from two of the larger newspapers here in Connecticut. The subject is rather disturbing and disheartening.

I have to say.."I'm not surprised in the slightest". I have long chats with many American associates and friends and non of them are ever surprised at reading or hearing about these types of stories. What I find even more surprising is the almost apathetic attitudes that seem to be in the US today. Please don't take offence - as I do love the American people (it's your government that sucks) - but isn't it about time the country woke up and did something about this reduction in privacy.

I love watching Boston Legal - David Kelly (the writer) is pretty spot on and blatant about pointing out the obserdity that surrounds the whole "war on terror" thing. If anyone saw last nights episode (16th Jan I think) it was brilliant and indicative of the whole problem that face both the US & UK.

When a government can just stand up and say "it's all in the name of national security" you can bet your bottom dollar that that is a smoke screen in the same way that WMD's were used.

In the UK most people wouldn't Blair if he stood up and said "this has to happen because...." as he's been pretty much found out. I would hate to see the US fall further and further in to what can only be described as a dictatorship. It's time for some good old fashioned rebellion and one large voice from the people that says "Enough is Enough".

In the words of Thomas Jefferson "....governments are instituted among men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed; that whenever any form of government shall become destructive of these ends, it is the right of the people to alter or to abolish it, & to institute new government...."

This is a good thing.They were doing it with no oversight.Now they have to go to court and get a warrant.The American people did speak up and now they have to go to court.

^^^^ Is that an open court? I understood that it was in fact a review court which is behind closed doors with restricted reporting.

This is a SECRET court. Even though this is a step in the right direction, as far as curtailing the current administration's abuse of power, I still feel that having secret commissions like this has no place in an supposedly open democratic government. As far as the apathetic attitudes you described Strangename, you are right on the money. I work at a community college and one of the the most depressings things I run into with our student body is that the younger kids are more in tune with American Idol, MTV and other pop cilture garbage than with the happenings in Washington which affect them and their future far more. It is a sad commentary on how they are being brought up, and what our culture focuses on.

Thats why the United States is a republic not a democracy.Thats also why politicians don't care about things that matter to young people(pot laws),they don't vote.Can't blame them though,when I was 18-19,all I cared about was getting laid and parties.
