Hi, having grown up in the UK, hash has always been considered a last resort smoke as qualit is so low, it is even referred to as soap bar and often contains unidentified contaminents, I've even had chunks of metal and plastic! For me to smoke hash in England it ALWAYS needs heating/melting to break up so when I first saw softer hashes I was amazed.
The first few times I visited Amsterdam my instinct took me straight to the weed and it wasn't until last trip that I tried some Nepalese Temple Ball from Stix, which was incredible, a great taste and really relaxing stone, I understand that the darker hashes such as NTB have more indica effects where as the lighter have more sativa, is this correct?
How much difference does country of origine make?I see lebanesem pakistani, moroccan and many more but does this mean anything to taste/effect?
How do YOU smoke the different types? Does it depend on how light/dark, hard/soft it is? I prefer joints in general, but recently quit tobacco so am I best to bong hash or add it to weed in a joint?
Can anyone suggest a few different strains I could try to get a better general understanding of variations?
Finally, are Ice/Bubble hashes really worth the money? I imagine them to be almost completely separate to cannabis and closer to higher class drugs, is this an exaggeration?

A Rough Guide to Hash?

My all time favorite hash is Red Lebanese, the last few years it has been hard to find. Hold it in your hand and the heat from your hand should soften it up. If used in a joint, hold a lighter flame near it for a brief period. If it starts to burn just blow it out. Before it cools, it will crumble up real easy. Use these crumbles in your pipe or joint.
Now as to ways to consume hashish. My all time fav for hash is called under glass or sometimes hash on a stick. Business or post size card, a paper clip, and a drinking glass are the weapons. The method is bend the paper clip so it has the pointy end pointing somewhat up. Push the pin through the center of the card. Set the card down on a table. put a piece of the hash, maybe a little smaller than a pea, on the end of the pin/clip. Set the hash to burning. Turn the drinking glass upside down and place it over the hash and card. When the glass fills with smoke, tip it a little and suck it out. Sometimes a straw can be used here. Set the glass back down and repeat as needed. You won't need to repeat many times until you will reach the desired effect.

In Amsterdam dark imported hashes most likely are from Indica plants but what one considers "dark" is a matter of opinion. I have seen Moroc that was "dark". And of course, Neder hash (skuff, kif, etc) most likely will be green regardless if it's from a Sativa or Indica.

Tweede Kamer or Dampkring for Rifman. There will be several grades of Rifman ranging from ok to possibly the best Moroc in town. Both locations were out of the Rifman I wanted during my last visit.
None of the shops I listed has ever burned me which is why I mentioned them. Of course, any shop could have the "best in town" during your visit.

If smoking hash in a Volcano you need certain special parts that don't come with it. For kif, crystal, etc. they have extra fine screens. For harder hashes thet have another type of add-on.JayK wrote: Another quick quesyion, hash in a vapo???

This question is definately a generational thing...way back when I first started smoking, hash was the staple diet. It was easy to transport and eat quickly if the cops were on your @ss! But in the UK it is also down to location. I had nver experienced soap-bar until I lived in Scotland for a while and the quality was very hit and miss. Down south (below the Watford gap) good quality hash was always available...it also helped that for a while I was very close to the import side...literally waiting for the banna boat to come in 
I personally enjoy proper Temple Ball if I want to kick back and chill to some sounds...by proper I mean Temple Ball that has a coating of Opium around the hash and is sold as a ball (hence the name)...not easy to find anymore but does appear in in the Dam - but be carefull as some of it has opium blended in to the hash and that can get real heavy...(warning - withdrawl problems can occur).
I agree with Fly about Red Leb...used to be my staple and quality used to be very good untill the producers started to introduce henna in to inferior hash to make it look better. Kashmir Lounge used to be one of the best places in the Dam for quality Leb others may have better or more current information. Not such a heavy smoke as above and one that always seems to give me the giggles...and the munchies!
Finally, Afghan...this tends to be more crumbly and less oily than the above 2...in fact it can also break up in to what can only be described as a sand like consistency. In my experience it tends to give a more sativa type buzz.
Best way to smoke IMHO is through a water/electric pipe to cool the smoke...I don't have a modern vapo (mine is the old style with a glass dome...real antique) so it maybe ok.

first off.. hash in a volcano vaporizer is awesome, the hash tastes even better.. can u imagine?? .. anyway, there is a new hash/oil filling chamber volcano has made and u can smoke hash in it.. also cafe 420 de kuil will allow u to smoke hash out of there volcano, some shops wont allow it.
as far as different kinds of hash, i would agree, that dampkrings rifman is some of the best moroccan u can find. some moroccan can be hard, some can be soft, most of the time i find the moroccan hash to be very uplifting, clean and great tasting. its normally a bit lighter in color than lets say afghani or temple balls.
The red leb is very tasty, and a fine high, not much burn out here.
the bubble/ice hash is truly fine stuff! if you smoke a lot, you will enjoy this stuff, most of it, if you get the good stuff, will tast very nice, and almost melt and stick to the bag they give it to u in. Its normally a bit darker in color, and very soft. It is some of the strongest stuff, but i wouldnt say its the best. I really enjoyed the kushage water works from twede kamer last visit as well as the barney rubble from barneys.. both are unique and give a powerful stone, often leading to a heavy burnout, but the kushage wasnt as bad for the burn out.
the nep temple balls have been the best for a long time, the gooly ball in the centre of the big temple ball is the best part, try and get a piece from the middle if they still have a big amount left when ur there. its by far the best hash you will smoke. and i also agree, stix has some great temple ball.. amnesia had some real deal as well when i was there in may 2006
as far as smoking hash... you can smoke it in the many bongs they have at coffeeshops all over amsterdam, just throw a screen in the bowl and fire in a piece of hash and let er rip. you can also buy a cheap glass pipe or bubbler for like 10 euro and get some screens, and smoke it in the pipe. another very tasty way is to either roll the hash into snake if it doesnt crumble when heated, and put the snake inside a joint. or if the hash will crumble when heated on a pin or whatever, u can just put the small hash balls inside your joint... the vaporizer is nice once and while, but i dont think i would want to exclusively use the volcano to smoke hash.
hey jayk! im sure i will have quite the array of hashes when im in a-dam if you want to meet up for a smoke and try some out.

I am not a joint smoker, tobacco just doesn't seem to agree with me, so I regulary smoke various hashes in Amsterdam through a pipe or bong (would love to see how vapo'ed hash would taste and the effect it has). As I first buy the hash I try a few pure pipes to try and get the full flavour and effect of that particular strain, but after a while I try different 'pipe cocktails' - usually crumbling some hash on top of a nice pipe of indica (tempal ball goes very nice as a cherry on top!) You can also make quite a cheap smoke, taste very expensive this way if you topped of with some normal Polm.
A couple of my favourite hashes I have come across in Amsterdam have been Caramellow (The Coin), Melana Cream (Tweede Kamer) and Super Polm (sometimes listed as Super Pollen)....and have been recommended Golden Soles from Grey Area a number of times. Reading FBN's review of Red Leb, it reminds me of the Super Polm I bought in the Easy Times a couple of summers back - you could break a tiny piece, hold in on a warm hand and watch it fluff up before your eyes (never seen another strain have this effect since, even other Super Polm's)
Finally ice hash - only you can really decide whether it's worth it or not, for me personally and my spending budget i give myself, I don't think it is worth it if it's priced over €25. Then I only buy it as a treat to myself. Two ice hashes I DO strongly recommend are Crystal Clear (Katsu) and Shiva Ice (Willy Wortal Sensimilla in Haarlem). I don't necessary think you get more stoned than a nice black hash, they just seem to last longer. A fairly nice cheap alternative is the Smoking Bull Ice Hash, but if this is all you try, then you may get the wrong impression of ice hashes in future as the one from Willy Wortals was a lot higher quality.
