Yes Badgers, skinky cats.
My first run in took place about 5 miles for my camp. Well there I was pants down bare ass hanging over a log taking a shit. When from behind me me I heard a shrill growl and something was coming towards me. A fuckin badger looked around to teeth and claws.  So picture this a guy running though the woods trying pull his pants up while getting chased by a badger. I didn't get a chance to wipe. Crusty shorts
I also hate raccoons but they are easy to scare away with a M-80.
I have lost more food to chipmonks and squirrels. The most noteable was a dozen dehydrated eggs. I have always wondered what happended when it got a drink of water. Pop goes the critter

A big Hog
Image
The fellow in the pictures is Larry Earley. He lives about

30 miles from Orlando, in the very rural community of Okahumpka, just off the Florida turnpike in Lake County, Florida. He has 20 acres of land and on it, a few cows and horses. Mostly it's pasture land that is fenced with woods surrounding him.

He is neighbored by a larger cattle ranch.
His neighbor has complained for several years that wild

hogs had been raiding his cattle feeders and salt licks.

Last month he saw what he thought was a cow in his pond and went to see if it was stuck in the mud and would have to be pulled out. When he got close enough to realize it was a hog, the thing made a charge at him. He had driven his truck down to the pond and carries a pistol in it (as any Florida redneck would, and I say that with genuine affection). He got his handgun and when it came at him again, he shot it twice and killed it.

Wild hogs in Florida usually run from 100-400 pounds with a 400 pounder being a monster. Because this one had been feasting on grain for several years it had grown to mammoth size.

When Larry took it to the processor it weighed in at over 1100 pounds! The meat has no wild taste, as it was grain fed; and Larry is quite the hero. He has fed many fireman and provided the homeless shelter in downtown Orlando with a couple of meals. You were worried about just gators in Florida!

What is the weapon you have at home or about. Come on we all have something.
3 handguns, a rifle, shotgun, swords, a shit load of knives, even a metal bat at the front door. Yes even a big dog hes more likly to knoch you and lick you.
Out and about in the back woods. My 9mm a machette and a folding knife. I know most people don't like guns I my self would feel naked without something. I have been in the back woods with only a axe and knife. I have almost lost my life twice up there once from hypothemria got caught in an ice storm. The second from a fall that I broke a verabrea in my neck from ice on a tailing pile. After all I am olny 2 generations from the pioneer's my grandfather homesteded in Idaho a dutch man from minnesoda.

I grew up in Michigan, Wisconsin, and Minnesota. I lived in the mountains of Colorado for many years. NEVER EVER needed a gun. NO not never.

I was an avid hunter and fishermen. When hunting I carried the correct gun for the game. I have my hunter safety certificate that I got when I was 12 years old. I know American wilderness better then most. I NEVER EVER EVER EVER had a need for a side arm when in the woods. NEVER....

Your argument holds no water at all. It is a personal choice and absolutely nothing more.

by Alaskan Biker
I really keep hoping this thread will go away but it just keeps coming back and it is a little bit insulting sometimes to me because of all the good and decent people I know who carry guns in Alaska Canada and Siberia.
Even though we only lose a few people a year up here to wildlife the number of those who show up in the newspaper who defended their life or their child's life is rather substantial each year the only thing is unless you are a local you never hear about all those cases because no human got hurt and those are the ones the media loves to play up......I suspect that is probably true in other wilderness areas of the country as well.

Not picking sides here since I view a gun no different than a hammer or truck in my life it is just a tool and it does have it's uses I am not in love with the things hell I don't even really like them they are bulky heavy and a pain in the ass 99.9% of the time but after being born in NC in an area controlled by a crooked sheriff's dept that was organized crime with a badge and then having spent part of my life in combat and then part as a biker before finally finding my place in the peace and beauty of the frontier well it is a tool that has proved useful.

I personally love the animals and wolves are my favorite I don't even hunt except when no other choice I fished instead and with the exception of 2 moose attacks that ended with me not being forced to shoot either one though I certainly think others would not have given them the chances I did all my animal encounters including bear have ended very well in fact I usually when I came across wild animals I would hang out for a while and share their space if they where in the mood to allow it if not I made my way else where.

Plain and simple there are plenty of animals just like people and most will never bother you but there are always a few and walking in the deep wilderness without a gun is a personal choice but I think it would be far more correct to say the danger is about equal to that of walking through one of our inner cities unarmed at 3am in the morning in a not so good part of town it may never be a problem but it is really pushing it and taking a unnecessary chance with ones life or family.

And the most powerful single weapon anyone can posses
is their BRAIN

If you HAD ONE...You wouldent need to brag...about a pistol...a sword
...a rifle...a knife

and a heads up to you guys....when you talk about this kind of stuff...
it gives girls clues as to the size of your equipment...pathotic really

I stopped taking anything you said seriously a while ago Blue... I'm sure others did to!

I only see you putting people down...... I hardly see a respectful or helpful post by you.

Hardly very "Dutch by Choice" of you.
