My Edged Weapon Collection

Post by Twitch »

Never leave home with out at least one of them.
The swords are WW11 Japanese Officers swords. One is hand made and one is machine made.

Twitch - why would a peaceful chap like yourself want such weaponry?? Is it just about the craftsmanship or what? wouldn't a nice set of steak knives be safer?

Sorry, didn't mean to offend anyone. ( geoffk, Twitchaldino )
Have been interested in knives since I was a teen-ager.
I haven't always been a " peaceful chap :, got into more than my fair share of fights as a teen ager.
Became " peaceful " after about 7 years of studying martial arts. ( no, that's not a paradox )
Yes am very interested in how they are made, the art work and craftsmanship ,etc.
Some of them are made to be sold as " collectors " knives.
I took a class and actually made one of those knives, all by hand, did everything but the forgeing.

No offense from my end Twitch. I was just reading back on the thread. Thanks for your concern though. I had a small collection of utility knives (Gerber) at one time.

Sorry man, I should have been wiser when posting.

I read the whole thing and then thought "Why did I do that!!" it was a wast of my time, full of bull' about guns n bias opinion, for and against.

My post just happened to be below yours(Twitch) and wasnt directed at you.

Having only just looked at your Knife collection I must say I'm impressed.
You have some really nice pieces there and as a collection its Magnifecent.

And owning some Knifes in a display cabinet is slightly different than a multitude of Firearms.

again sorry to offend ya man

Wasn't offended, thought I had bothered you with the amount of oics/knives in collection and the time it took to look at them.
Yes it is a nice collection.
Actually my second as I my house was broken in to back in the 70's and my first collection was stolen.

i think it's customary(or a law depending on where you are) to return those Japanese WWII swords to the Japanese army to be returned to remaining family members...i think they are all inscribed with the officers number or family name or something.
I can't remember where i read that but i think they also said they are worth a fair bit on the black market.

Come to think of it, I heard that somewhere too. I'm reading a book about a young samurai who moved to the U.S. before WWII.

Made an attempt back in the 80's to return them and never got a response from the Japanese gov.
When I discussed it with my Iaido sensai he said that gov. was often not able to track down family members and was really only interested in old swords that date back to the 1800's.
One of mine, the hand made one was done in 1914 and the machine made ( which often were cut down from old swords ) was made in 1933.
