Butchers in Amsterdam

Post by pengaldinho »

I was wondering if anyone can recommended a good (and not to expensive) Butcher in Amsterdam? The only one i could see online was really high priced http://www.slagerijdeleeuw.nl/en/ I will be looking in AH and at the markets but was just looking for other ideas. I have an apartment over Christmas and am intended on cooking a roast dinner, any tips would be much appreciated.

I once bought chicken and IIRC bacon from a Turkish butcher shop just off Albert Cuypstraat, possibly on the street as Katsu. They spoke not a word of English but it was an easy transaction.

Bought my veg there as well. I think we ended up with a large pot of soup.

Keema, on the Kinkerstraat is a good butcher with decent prices and they at least label their horse meat as horse meat!

For a top quality butcher, though not the cheapest, there's a place in the alley opposite the small Abraxas on Spuistraat has sold me some of the finest beef I've ever had.

Hope you enjoy your xmas roast, I'm having xmas back on the island for the first time in 8 years, can't wait.

There is a butcher(light blue overhang) down the alley on the right corner of the Hotel Brower Singel 83

Unfortunately the meat in Amsterdam is pretty crappy. There are good organic butchers at the Noordermarkt market (Sat and Monday). There is a good French butcher at De Cruyp market (in a building, not the market. Sorry I can't the remember the name. Also, in the daily Kinkerstraat market (ten kate) the butchers are pretty good. Do your research on the cut of meat you want before visiting because the names/cuts in Dutch are not the same as in the US/UK.
