Not a food, but a drink....Absinthe!
Not a food, but a drink....Absinthe!
I know the lore behind the legendary drink, green fairies and all...We can get it in the 'Dam while we are there, it's a VERY social drink, waiting for the ice water to slowly drip over the sugar cube, the wormwood in it, being SLIGHTLY halucinigenic (sp?), hopefully acting as an assist to our favourite intoxicant, the leaf.
Who might be in for a journey on the green liquid? perhaps on a fun guy filled night? nudge nudge.
LESS THAN 30 HOURS TIL I HEAD FOR THE AIRPORT.....sorry, I'm kinda excited.
Pooch.

You used to be able to find it in several bars around town including the Absinthe Bar, but that is no longer. If you want the good stuff you'll have to get it from the liquor store in the Jordaan just of the Prinsengracht and drink it at someone's apartment.
Are you stoned? Like a gravel road bitch, like a gravel road!
Re: Not a food, but a drink....Absinthe!
I purchased a bottle of cannabis infused Absinthe in Heidelberg, Germany...
...brought it with me to the 4/20/12. Those who were asked if interested in a nip, weren't.
I still have the bottle, shy one shot.. was/is lovely.

Perhaps another time, with adventurers who would partake in drinking a little magic elixir.

Happy Absinthe, Japanese style...

There's a very comprehensive Absinthe shop on the Nieuwendijk - North end on the corner of Haringpakkerssteeg. They sell all sorts (in my hazy memory) including 'not for export' Absinthe - no idea what the difference is.

the difference is probably wormwood. There are a lot of absinthe wanna be products, the real stuff is made with wormwood.gronin wrote:There's a very comprehensive Absinthe shop on the Nieuwendijk - North end on the corner of Haringpakkerssteeg. the absinthe bar was a cool place, descent product with the proper rituals of drinking - sorry you missed it. got a friend who brews his own - better that any stuff that can be purchased anywhere. There really ARE green fairies! : >
Re: Not a food, but a drink....Absinthe!
IIRC, some "real absinthes" have thujone (nerve poison from wormwood) in it, and it is the active ingredient you are looking for, some products tell you how much of it is in there. But most of the time the amount of thujone is barely noticable. It is also debated if the small amounts of thujone really gives you any extra pleasure or not.
Absinthe can be a fun drink, but buyer beware, it is highly alcoholic drink and will cause you to get intoxicated quite fast and the drunken behavior might not be the thing that you are looking for.
More info on thujone: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thujone
