"Could Denver, Colorado's capital and a total marijuana mecca as of seven days ago, ever replace Amsterdam as the ultimate weed weekender?
Allow us to consider the cities in a variety of non-pot-related categories.

ARTS AND CULTURE - Winner: Sorry, has to be Amsterdam.
FOOD - Winner: Amsterdam. We can't resist a fry.
DAY TRIPS - Winner: Denver. Mountains trump windmills, always.
HISTORY - Winner: Amsterdam. We're suckers for architecture.
SCENERY - Winner: Neither-- both are beauties in their own right.
SPORTS - Winner: Denver. Bike rides don't make thrills this big.
Image
LODGINGS - Winner: Amsterdam. ...mostly because of the vending machines.
SHOPPING - Winner: Amsterdam, for being small and manageable."

Ummmm, wouldn't the "Amsterdam Coffeeshop Directory" posters be a little biased? Let's ask the same question in an independent weed forum.

Colorado has a great history. My Dutch partner has fallen in love with Colorado and she spends many hours learning about the old and wild west, the indigenous people, ((going back for thousands of years(Mesa Verde for ex.)), the gold rush, first AC power plant, etc. The history is different of course, but very cool none the less. Denver has a lot of museums and if that is your thing then you can stay busy for days. Food? No comparison for an American. Cheaper, healthier, and more choice. Lodging and shopping are good too. Denver is not Europe and going to Europe regardless of city is always an adventure. But if you want to get high, then Colorado should be high on your list to visit soon. It just keeps getting better by the day here. Over 50 recreational shops are now open and new ones coming on line daily. Plenty of places to consume too.

Don't get me wrong, I still have an affection for Amsterdam and a home there, but given the choice, Colorado is where I choose to live and my Dutch partner would choose too. I am in the fortunate and unique position of having homes in both places.

I think it would be hard and unfair to compare them.

I think it's 70 days until I fly into Denver. 4 days of skiing Vail/Beaver.

Well I live on the west coast...here is my two cents......amsterdam is a great city...... A must for any cannabis lover as well as anyone who likes to travel and see the world..I'm not a big fan of the food in amsterdam...it's ok but nothing special..... ( the food in Paris is wonderful)....the mountain air of Colorado trumps the air in the dam.....the pot in Colorado is better than in amsterdam.... There are wonderful stains there but there is also a lot of shit being sold is some coffeeshops.......almost everything in Colorado is very high quality........plus there are edibles, tinctures , oils, shatter, wax , everything ......also amsterdam is going the wrong way on these issues and has been for years now( getting rid of real mushrooms and all the new restrictions on coffeeshops).....amsterdam in the 90's was so much looser and free.......getting way too conservative....plus number one of all the reasons colorado is better------ I can fly to Denver in 90 min.. It takes 10-13 hrs to get to the dam from the west coast.......ding ding ding we have a winner.......( now if only we could get the wonderful whores from amsterdam here , we would have it all)

Of course there's gonna be a massive bias on this forum but here's my two cents -

Amsterdam is more of a beautiful city. Denver is surrounded by more beautiful country. I'd MUCH rather live in the Netherlands than the US (and I'm American by blood). Yes, Amsterdam has some shitty weed but for now the coffeeshop atmosphere is truly unparalleled. I prefer Amsterdam food but then again I'll take most food over American food. And both histories are rich, either way you look at it.

When it comes down to it, I'd much rather spend a day walking around Amsterdam than I would Denver but the comparison is kind of mooted by the fact that they're both wondrous places and anybody who's lucky enough to visit (or live in) either should feel privileged

Denver by miles, Amsterdam is nice but not as nice as it once was and pretty dirty aswell, the buildings are nice and its good to be able to hit a cs but as its not counting weed then Amsterdam has nothing that most European citys don't have, the best mountain biking is in the U.S and that alone would draw me straight in.

If only I could get into the country I doubt I would come home, sometimes I can't wait to get back from the Dam and get clean and some decent food:shock:

Barcelona next I think :D

+1

Now that Denver is operational, the next in line for quality MJ that is legal - Seattle! Then San Francisco, Sacramento, Portland, Burlington, Concord, and Boston!

My next trip is to Amsterdam, always #1. Then it is up for grabs! If Denver settles down and there is guidance (message to Milehigh), then it's second in line but being pushed by Montego Bay! Of course, if New Hampshire or Massachusetts gets their stuff together then 2nd is up for grabs, but A'dam will remain 1st in line, but there is a whole world to see!

Amsterdam's coffee shops are the only place I'v felt safe smoking and buying pot. There seems to be a definite plan to not let the "coffee shop" culture to thrive anywhere else, that is sad. :( :( Amsterdam is my choice for cannabis travel, :D however I will be making a trip out west to pay my fair share to the CO school fund  I'll feel safe buying out in Denver, but not so much to smoke yet

Other than weed it's impossible for me to compare the two city's they are just different and great in there own ways

Amsterdam has long been known as the most weed-friendly place in the world, but with the passage of Colorado's new law legalizing the sale of marijuana to adults 21 and over, Amsterdam will have to take a back seat to Colorado's capital city.

Here are five ways Denver is more weed-friendly than Amsterdam.

1. You can buy way more weed legally in Denver than you can in Amsterdam.

Colorado's Amendment 64 allows state residents to buy 1 ounce of weed at a time from the state's dispensaries, most of which are located in the Denver area. (Out-of-state residents are limited to a quarter ounce at a time.) In Amsterdam, you can't buy more than 5 grams at a time from the city's "coffee shops."

2. You can legally grow weed in Denver. In Amsterdam and the rest of the Netherlands, that's against the law.

In Denver, as in the rest of the state, you can grow up to six plants per adult in the privacy of your own home, as long as they're grown in an "enclosed, locked space" and no more than three of the plants are flowering at a time. Cultivation of marijuana throughout the Netherlands is against the law, although there's a policy of tolerance for people growing a small amount of weed in their own homes.

3. Denver city law lets you blaze on your front porch or in your backyard. In Amsterdam, that's a no-no.

Despite early efforts to outlaw smoking weed in open view in Denver, the Denver City Council voted in December to let residents blaze on private property even while in public view, like on front porches, balconies, etc. Smoking at someone else's house without their permission is illegal, however.

In the Netherlands, contrary to popular belief, smoking pot is technically illegal, although it's tolerated in certain places under certain conditions. That means that if you're sitting on a blanket smoking in your backyard on a sunny day, you're technically breaking the law.

4. You can legally buy weed brownies, magic cookies and cannabis lollipops in Denver. In Amsterdam, that's illegal.

The Colorado Department of Revenue's awesomely named Marijuana Enforcement Division says that you can buy up to 1-ounce worth of weed edibles in Colorado if you're a state resident. (Out-of-staters are limited to a quarter-ounce's worth of stoner treats, which is still no small portion.) Anyone up for some marijuana-infused baklava?

Amsterdam, on the other hand, does have weed edibles for sale in some coffee shops. But again, such products are illegal, strictly speaking, under Netherlands law.

5. You can gift your friends up to 1 ounce of weed in Denver, but not in Amsterdam.

Christmas just got a lot more fun in Colorado. State law explicitly states that it's completely legal to give another adult up to 1 ounce of marijuana as long as no money is exchanged. In Amsterdam, although it's rare that you would be prosecuted for it, giving any weed to a friend is against the law.
